+1. I'd like to see a really close up and far shot in higher resolution. I was debating doing this too, but there is just something sort of ugly about painting stock calipers. I know it's not quite the same, but it's almost like highlighting that you still have stock brakes, haha.

Also I'd say either PC or polish and brush on G2 paint. I'd stray from just spraying an $8 can of aerosol paint on.

Have you looked closely at the stock calipers? They're not particularly good looking on the E92. Part of the caliper is smooth, and the other part is a rough cast surface.

Here's a link to a thread with some photos of a guy who did red on frozen black. I don't think it looks horrible, but anyone who knows what they're looking at is going to think, "Ew, those are some ugly ass stock brakes."

I thought about this a lot, even contemplating having a Brembo kit installed, but don't drive my car enough to justify the expense. My detailer advised me to have the calipers painted with a ceramic coating, in addition to the hubs, all in black. This has the effect of making the hub and caliper almost disappear and makes the wheel the center of attention. i had him do this on my 535d, and my LX570, in addition to the M3. It's definitely a better look, plus you don't have to look at those rusty hubs anymore!

a friend cleaned his really well and put an M decal on the side, it looks great. i think anything other than black will make them look uglier.

I did mine all black and it looked much better. No more discoloration makes a huge difference.

PS: Just to add some information to my post, I went the route of cleaning the hubs with a wire brush, but the rust comes back quickly. If you are going to do the work to modify this area of the car (painted hubs and calipers) you are going to have to remove the wheels, obviously, but this provides the opportunity to clean up your wheels. I cleaned the wheels with Sonax Full Effect, then machine polished the inner and outside of the wheel. This alone makes your wheels pop, but, it's best to OptiCoat the wheels after this step, in addition to the newly painted calipers and hubs. This step will greatly reduce brake dust issues, in addition to making wheel cleanup faster when washing the car. I've attached a photo of a caliper and hub on my C4S, post coating with Modesto. This is a better image than in my first post. The caliper came like that from Porsche, the hub was cleaned and then ceramic coated prior to coating. Please note that hub clean up is imperative prior to painting, a quick way to accomplish this is to use a round wire brush attached to a power drill (these can be obtained a Home Depot for about $5), just take care you are in control of the drill at all times, it's easy to slip off the hub and hit your caliper.

Part of what makes the stock caliper so unattractive on the e9x is exposure of the actual pad. If they had done a enclosed pad type of set up like the picture above I bet more people would venture to re-coating or altering them.

I may just end up powder coating them black.
