Fault code P0050 - replaced 02 sensor code keeps coming back. Now what?
I'm getting code P0050 "H02S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 2 Sensor 1)"
Figured doing the obvious and replacing the driver side (Bank 2) pre-cat wide band (sensor 1) would fix the issue. I used a Bosch 17039 sensor per forum recommendations. Car seems to run better post install but still throwing a CEL - Increased Emissions, P0050, same code. Not sure how to trouble shoot now, as its acting like I never replaced the sensor... Suggestions welcome! -- car is a 2009 e92 dct with 112k. Runs well other than this, need to get it inspected soon!! |

How long has it been. CEL needs a couple drive cycles to reset. If you have access to a tool, reset it and see if it comes back.
Another thing to double check if you really replaced the right sensor. One time my buddy replaced an 02 sensor only to find out its the other sensor thats bad. |

Did you clear the error after sensor replacement?

You need to either clear the code or go through 2 full drive cycles (approx 60 miles with 2 cold starts) and it will clear itself. That code is for a failed heater circuit in the O2 sensor you changed so you should be good.

The only way I have to clear the OBDII code is via a Bluetooth adapter and an Andriod app called Torqe. Seems to be working correctly as I've used it to clear other codes in the past.
After replacement of the sensor I cleared the code with key on engine off. Started car and no CEL. However after running a scan the code does appear, however didn't throw a CEL initially due to it not being present when diagnostic was run when the car was started. Turn car off and back on? Same code with a now present CEL. If CEL is on and I clear the code, CEL turns off, however if I rescan for codes the same P0500 code pops up. Not sure what defines a drive cycle, but I put about 60 miles on the car since replacement. Same issue. However seems to run a lot better. Odd. HELP! |

Tomorrow I'm going to swap Bank 1 and 2 sensors to see if the code follows. If it does, bad sensor. If not, the problem must be from the harness back.
Tell me I'm not crazy and this makes sense? - Any way to check to see if the harness is bad? |

Wanted to give an update. Provlem solved.
Decided to swap both pre-cat 02 sensors to see if the sensor was bad or if the issue was further down the chain. Code did not follow after swap and clearing codes etc. After taking the front skid plate off entirely and inspecting the female end of the 02 sensor harness I noticed about a foot back from the Bank 2 (drivers side) connector that the wiring harness was rubbed through. From the factory it was pinched between the skid plate and frame. I was able to repair the damage in about 30 minutes. Glad I was able to fix it! Put about 30 miles on the car and it runs GREAT! No codes, time to get it inspected! |
