Tire Insurance Rip off?

So my M3 has tire insurance, this is the 2nd time I've been declined a claim and had to pay for the tire out of pocket. The SA told me the tire needs to be 3/32 or greater tread to be covered. This is through safeguard, bought through the dealer.

Is this "normal"? Is there a way around this? My SA is a "by the book" kind of guy, he's not going to make any exceptions.

Sucks to have tire insurance, then be out $1100 in tires. What's the point?

There is a minimum that the tire has to be in order to file a claim. I used to get nails in my tires just before hitting those limits when I had a tire warranty in order to break even.

yes, normal policy. btw it's cheaper to buy tire insurance from tirerack and other tire sellers.

Is it not reasonable that they won't replace almost bald tires when you run over a nail?

I don't think it's not not unreasonable. So fairly reasonable.
