Curious why the M is an Exception at my Local Dealer

My local dealer sends coupons to me on a fairly regular basis. I have purchased four vehicles from them, and overall, they do an exceptional job in my experience, over the past seven years. I am always curious why the "M" models are always excluded from any of the coupon related service offerings. Just from a business perspective, it would be, IMHO, a good relationship builder to have your loyal M customers treated in the same way that you treat all of your other BMW Owners. This exclusionary marketing tactic does not make me feel special, in fact, it makes me feel like they want to charge me more for everything just because I own an M. Of the seven BMW's I've purchased over the past twenty years, all have been acquired and serviced at a BMW dealer. My current M is the only M car I have ever owned. It would be really nice to be included in these coupon events in the future. I hope that someone from BMW of Murray is reading this post.

BMW marketing cheapskates with low option/CPO 3 series and they need the coupon to bring them to dealer for service rather than losing them to local shop. If you willing to pay extra for M then you're not the coupon type.

I think it has more to do with parts prices. You'll never see a $45 oil change special for a ///M because even the dealer pays more than that for the oil and filter.

Agreed. I used to work for this dealership, M oil changes cost more. But they will still work with you I bet.

Good to see another Utah owner on the boards. Reach out if you ever want some mods done, or coding.

Agreed, but how about they use the oil change as a loss leader for the M? If I am sitting there waiting for my oil to be changed, I might just buy something? It would give them an opportunity to sell something to me such as Extended Warranty, tires, wheels or that nice M apparel they have in their retail store.

Actually I've never used M1

60k, Pennzoil Platinum w/ pure plus 5w-30
65k, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum w/ pure plus, 0w-40
70k, Shell Rotella T6
75k, back to ultra platinum

Currently at 77k
So far, with ~20k miles in 9months of ownership since this 2nd M3, I've driven twice to Florida, around the northeast, periodic trips to/from New England, and commutes to/from LI/NYC/NJ

I got the oil filters (WIX 57997) cheap, for about $9 shipped
T6's are $20/jug and $25 for Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 5qt at walmart
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, I got them on sale with $7 instant coupon from Amazon ~$36 per box

Costs me about $80 to do an oil change, and I work in an indy.

I use Liqui-Moly 10W-60 GT1 though.

I got the same email coupon from BMW Murray of Denver. That is where I did my last oil change. Thanks to great DIY section, I am going to do my own oil change from now on.

I am seriously considering M1 0w-40.

Yeah, got paranoid about the bearings thread, so tried it out. Burned too quickly so switched to heavier weight. Then finally settled on pennzoil 0w40

My guess is this is more that 50% why there are bearing issues

The recommended 10w60 oil, either the TWS or Shell will cost you about $13-15 per liter, and the car takes 9 liters. Then add onto that the cost of the filer and labor. You may be able to work out a little bit of a deal, but no way you're going to get it for $80.00.

I'd like to see the correlation between rod bearing issues and viscosity of motor oil used and frequency of oil changes.

Agreed. The dude tried to be snarky and came off like a fucking idiot. Typical armchair BMW owner though. Probably can't change his own oil.

Agree with OP! Also have received the coupons that preclude M vehicles, they go straight to junk mail now, lol!

In my experience with our local dealership, they don't reward those with typically deeper pockets with any special treatment. Rather, they gouge the M owners especially once out of warranty. Needless to say, I am no longer a customer of theirs and would not reward them with my patronage.
