Takata expected to recall nearly 34 million vehicles, biggest in history

This is pretty bad. 6 deaths already. Do we know if these airbags are in our cars?

Plug your VIN in here if you want to be certain:

http://www.safercar.gov/rs/takata/index.html

Mine stated there are no open recalls, and I believe I've read takata did not manufacture our airbag units. I'll have to find a source for that..

Yeah I got a notification for my e46 but my airbags are on the floor in a guest bedroom so guessing I'm fine?

No I suggest you throw them in your neighbor's pool where they can no longer be a threat to your children and pets

I'd prefer to put them under my coworkers chair and shoot them thru the ceiling.

had an airbag recall serviced on my beater accord 3 weeks ago. And this is a different issue, which goes to show every new technology usually has some major flaws for at least 10-15 years from its invention. Which was reason number #2 i had banned mdct from my order. Good call.

Don't believe our cars are affected, but the e46 is. I remember a few incidents of random airbags blowing off on various e46 cars while people were just driving. Scary.

Yes, but that was a more limited recall that Takata was doing where they were only recalling some of their airbags. From what I saw yesterday, Takata is now basically recalling every airbag they've put in any American car from 2002 to 2008 it appears. If the E9x M3 airbags were made by someone else, this car wouldn't be impacted. That website may not yet be updated, because this expanded recall was just announced yesterday. I'm kind of curious about this as well.

BMW is on the recall list as an impacted manufacturer, so based on the date range, it might be possible at least the 2008 M3 could be impacted, unless they specifically started using a different airbag manufacturer from the start of build in 2007.

Is there a way to get a definitive answer on this? BMW NA?

I'm concerned since we have a 2007 E93 335i in the family.

Looks like all model year E46s were possibly affected by this defect.
No word on E9x yet but so far so good. **knock on wood**

I suppose if you don't plan on wrecking at the track, no problems then
