Extended Warranty and Maintenance Plan?
Hi all,
Just asking a kinda general question focused on the m3 crowd. I've never purchased an m3 before, and I bought my e39 m5 as an older model. When purchasing a brand new m3, I know you are given the option to extend it's warranty and maintenance plan by 2 years/50k miles. In addition, I know you can add these things on during the 4 yr/50k mile period. Can anyone tell me past examples, for the m3 in particular of: 1. Cost of warranty extension at purchase 2. Cost of warranty extension by or around 50k miles 3. Cost of maintenance plan extension at purchase 4. Cost of maintenance plan extension by or around 50k miles Thanks all. Joe |

Extended warranty cost
Hi all,
Has anyone been quoted or have any experience on the cost of an extended warranty (till 6/100k) for an m3? Any advice on whether to buy when new (i.e. cheaper) or wait till 49k miles to purchase it? Just evaluating an option here. |

You can wait until right before it expires to buy it. I'm sure the price will be similar to the e9x M... so pretty expensive (for the OEM warranty). About $5000 for platinum.

I've got the Geico Mechanical Breakdown insurance on my E92 M3; you have to buy it while the car is still new. It costs me $34.50 every 6 months. Covers *everything*, but you have a $250 deductible for each visit. If you calculated 4 years of that before it takes effect... that's just $276. I'm out of my warranty already, but the car's been reliable so I haven't had to even use it. It beats the price of any other warranty hands down. It does not have an inclusion list, so pretty much everything outside normal wear and tear (brakes, clutch, tires, etc) is covered.

Some of the stories I've heard, I will most definitely be budgeting on getting an aftermarket warranty from endurance or the like when it comes time. I have a coworker that got a 3 year for about 3.5 on an m5... it's covered about 15k on repairs so far.
That geico one sounds pretty good too though. Will be looking into that

I purchase my F80 M3 today and the extended warranty offered to me today was value at 3800.00 for 6 years/100k. Figure I would share with y'all.

Is that the BMW Factory warranty or did the dealership sell you a third party? If BMW, was it Platinum, Gold, or Powertrain?

I didn't do the extended warranty, but I did do the extended service plan to 100K miles on my 335. I was putting on a lot of miles each year and more than made up for the cost with oil changes, brakes, etc.
My commute has changed significantly, so I am not sure it would be worth it this time for the F80. |

It was the Bmw extended warranty for power train plus electronics. It was the middle one as the more expensive topped 5,000 for 6 years /100k. I personally did not get any extended warranty as I'm trading mine in within 3 years or when the new LCI comes out.

I had the brakes replaced just before the warranty went out, so they're still like new. I haven't paid for an oil change yet. I can do it myself. The oil on the E92 M3 cost about $14/qt though. (x 9 )

Powertrain + electronics, huh? I'm trying to think what that leaves out that I care about in an extended warranty/CPO style.
I'd pay an extra $3500-3800 for another 50k miles of powertrain + electronics warranty on an M car. My e60 535xit just had $5k of warranty work done in the last 15k miles of CPO and it was replacing a fuel pump, both turbos, a busted comfort access ECU, and a busted TPM ECU |

I was shown the pamphlet. I dunno why you guys are paying so much.. The pamphlet showed $3,500 & some change for the platinum 7yr/100k mile warranty & the platinum covers EVERYTHING. I was pretty impressed when I saw the list. I was able to negotiate lower than that too so I went ahead & added it. Don't be afraid to try & negotiate with the finance guy, the deal isn't done after the CA.

Only bad thing about the geico is your paying the warranty premium for 3yrs while your car is still under bmw factory warranty and its just like insurance. Ita subject to rate change at your policy renewal.

I'm looking for warranty comparisons as well. Here is what I got offered while picking up my car, F80 M3
The M3/M4 is in category F, the second highest category. The only higher one is G - Alpina 7 is the only car in that category. anyways 7yr/70k miles - ~$7700 for Platinum 7yr/70 miles - ~$7000 for Gold 7yr/100k miles - $8700 for Platinum 7yr/100k miles - $8000 for Gold These prices are what I could remember. Obviously the finance manager was spitting out a bunch of numbers to me. He knocked down 1000 after 30 minutes, but i walked away not buying a warranty. Anyone else get comparables? I just thought it was a lot higher than I expected and felt i was getting taken advantage of. Full disclosure, I dont know if I got ripped off but I ended up buying the maintenance 6yr/100k for $3250. It seemed like it makes sense because the brakes are $1500 each. |

These warranties are huge profit centers for the dealer so I think there is a lot of wiggle room in the prices. Might make sense for someone putting a lot of miles on their car. I probably pass because this will be a second car for me and doesn't seem right to pay $3500 for only 2-3 more years of coverage.
