Even trade?

Hello all.
So I previously owned a 2012 335i, and the lease was up so I sent it back and bought a 2011 Range rover sport.
I thought it was a good idea at the time, and don't get me wrong the range rover is a great car, but it is SO boring to drive. Ive had the Range rover for almost 5 months and I need to get rid of it. I was going to sell it but I came across a guy who has a 2009 M3 and wants to trade me. He wants to do a trade, plus me giving him $2,000.
I need to hear some input from you guys.
Here are the specs of both cars.

-2011 Range Rover Sport-
-49,000 miles
-Keyless entry
-36 month/36,000 mile extended warranty
-Sport GT limited edition 2 package
-Ebony-Lunar Alcantara interior
-Upgraded 480 Watts HD Radio
-Paddle Shifters
-NO accidents

-2009 BMW M3-
-42,000 miles
-NO WARRANTY
-DCT transmission
-Premium harmon kardon sound system
-Stage 2 ESS tune
-Sec cat delete
-ACM exhaust mod

Again, he wants to trade plus me giving him $2,000

Here are pics of both cars.

KBB has the Rover listed at around 30-34k about.
KBB has the M3 listed at around 37-41k...

But the thing that is holding me back is that there is no warranty on the m3. I am worried maintenance costs are going to screw me over, however, I have never owned an m3.

start up a maintenance fund with that $2K. I know I'd much rather have the M than the SUV

edit: sorry, just noticed you are giving him the $2K.

those figures look about right.

The Land Rover will set you back on maintenance and fixes as well. You just don't know it yet.

Extra points for "Land Rover". That Sport was/is not a "Range".

Get the M. You live in Arizona. Live a little.

Why would he get a stage 2 tune with only a secondary cat delete?

I'd pass.

Trade it into Carmax for an M3 with a 100,000 mile maxcare warranty.

Id say even trade. No money on top of the Rover. That Rover would be baaaaaad if you blacked out all the red accents though

I wouldn't go for it mate. Honestly your best bet would be to sell the Range off and shell out the additional cash for a newer M3 with lower miles and under warranty. Unless you can have him present all paperwork for his maintenance records and have the car inspected thoroughly, I wouldn't pull the trigger. On top of which, the newer models have the competition package and new LCI taillights as well as iDrive update. Go for at least a 2011.

+1 there is a very good reason that the range rovers are depreciation nightmares. That air ride suspension is a nightmare to fix.

I would get rid of the RR ASAP. The M3 looks beat and it looks like they put the rear wheels in the front and the fronts on the rear. I would definitely get a PPI on it at the very least..

It all comes down to how much you enjoy the Range Rover. Frankly, I wouldn't pay $10k for a brand new Range Rover because the value for me is just not there. Conversely, I'd drop $40k for a used M3 with manual transmission. Before making the deal for the M3, go to CarMax and see what kind of a deal you can work out with them. CarMax has a good number of M3, and the CarMax warranty is great. For $3k, you get 6 years, 100k mile warranty.

Just so I can bring this up to the owner of the m3, what other things did you have in mind to do to an m3 if you had it stage 2?

I traded my 335is into Porsche North Scottsdale and picked up an 09 M3 coupe very similar to what you have listed and it was probably one of the best decisions i've made yet. However with that being said i wouldn't trade this guy something seems fishy. I'd sell the range and find a well maintained M3 that's bone stock.

Here's the ad i see in which he makes no mention of the tune: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/4968257605.html

no way, can't believe he's asking for money. your car looks better cared for than his. are those front wheels on the rear? WTH? there may be a 2009 M3 out there worth trading for, but it ain't that one.

I wouldn't put a aftermarket tune on my car but usually a stage II tune is for fully catless set ups.

A secondary cat delete is pointless and does nothing.
