Blackstone Report - Castrol TWS Edge Pro
Took a sample after running 5000 miles on Castrol TWS Edge Pro. Mileage was 53400 on my 2008.
Calcium and magnesium look off compared to universal averages. At least there doesn't look to be any concern with the rod bearings. Pretty happy about that Filled up with Liqui-Moly 10w-60 GT1 this time around (only $120 for the entire change, including oil & filter kit). Will run another oil test in 5000 miles. Report looks good .
But I really don't get this... A good report with EDGE and now you are changing with Liqui-Moly . You should keep it with EDGE no matter what price ! Think that a bearing replacement is much more expensive ?

I did not change to LM because of price, rather my local shop has seen success with LM in the s65.
I also got the TWS sample as the LM was being added, so I did not have the results yet. I'll be doing another analysis with the LM in another 5000 miles.

Particulate counts look fine. Without seeing TBN & TAN (I suggest paying for both next time), it's hard to say if you could've left the oil in longer. I suspect that you didn't need to change it, especially with the 1.5qt of makeup oil you added.

TBN = Total base number (alkalinity) In other words, they indicate how acidic the oil has become (bad) and how much "reserve" alkalinity is left (ability to fight those acids, which is good). It's an easy way to tell if you should've changed the oil or not.

Nothing wrong with Liqui-Moly; it is a superior oil... Castrol is over priced and no better than LQ... I have ran LQ in the last three M3's I have owned starting as soon as the warranty period ended on each of them... If your bearings are going to go they will grenade regardless of oil used... My 2002 M3 motor blew up at 19k miles with TWS in it, and it was replaced under warranty due to bearings... I switched to LQ after warranty ended and put over 200k miles on the car in 6 years with 140k of those miles using LQ... The car was still running fabulously when I sold it...
