2015 Order Delayed ----- Wait for a 2016?
UPDATE April 7, 2015
So an update here. Still town on what to do. I was set to wait on the 2016 when my 2015 production got pushed to May. A 2 month longer wait for the 2016 was a no brainer. Future value alone between the model years was enough to wait (I usually keep my cars 2ish years, hopefully a little longer with the M). Got an update last week, my 2015 actually got built as planned for March production. Should arrive here in about a month. Now the debate comes back, is it worth waiting 4-5 months for the 2016 or take the 2015? My thoughts right now are that when my 15 gets here the 16 order forms should be out. That means I'll know pricing, options and packages. Where my heads at now: Say yes to 2015 if: -interest rate drops (not likely) -2016 goes up in price (would have to be at least a 3k jump) Say yes to 2016 if: -significant changes -more appealing packages -price is exactly the same or less then 2015 (different packages can do this) Pros of 2015: -I'll have the car all summer! -well... its an M3, that's pro in itself What does everyone think?? -------- end update After debate on color and options, I placed an order for my 2015 Mineral White/Sakhir Orange M3 on January 20th! Hoping for a February build, I ended up with a March build with delivery in late April/Early May. At that time I was considering waiting for a 2016, but those are looking like June production with an approximated September deliver (Id hope August). I wanted the car in the spring! Fast forward a few weeks to this morning. Just got information that my March build is now April... and not guaranteed. The March allocation at my dealership has been canceled and April is iffy. April build will mean May/June delivery, if it even happens. At that point, why not wait 2 more months for a 2016 build? Right? Heres where I stand on the debate. If I don't have the car for the Spring, is late summer really that big of a deal? Are the changes for 2016 worth an extra 2 month wait? Is 2 months really that big of a deal at all realistically? A big one is future value. While cars are never an investment, the real debate comes from value kept by waiting 2 months. I don't put much mileage on my cars. My current Audi S4 is a 2013, July 2012 delivery. It has 32,250km on it which is low even if it was a January 2013 delivered car. I have it listed for sale right now and I'm in a great place with it from an equity standpoint. I can price it with the 2013s as it is a 2013 and has lower mileage then most out there. Had I bought a 2012 I would have the same mileage but be listing about 5k less. I'm thinking the same with the M3. In 2-3 years when I'm done with it, will I regret not waiting the 2 months for the 2016 and having about 5k more in equity in the car? The answer to all of those is leaning heavily towards the 2016 I wanted to see what others opinions on the topic might be. I have cars to drive until my M3 arrives. Even debating buying another motorcycle for the summer if I don't have the M3 just to have that fun factor. btw, the reason for the delay, apparently there is trouble sourcing parts again. We all know about the carbon fiber delays, now apparently its black wheels and brakes...

Sucks that they keep pushing back your production / delivery dates. If they can't guarantee you a delivery date on a '15, can they realistically be expected to guarantee production and delivery dates on '16 that are not even in production at this point? I'd say pull the trigger, get the car you want now!
If you go the '16 route and it's pushed back, you'll have a brand new car right in time for Winter. |

I also would press ahead and get the car sooner rather than later as life is too short. Your call though and I can see going the other way of they are wishy washy re your 2015 timeline.

First I'm hearing about any issues with wheels and brakes? Where did you hear that? I always seem to get my cars in the fall... with this pull ahead program, I'm looking forward to having it for the summer for a change!

Wait - 2 months is nothing really - I also have an S4 (tuned) - made that into my daily - I think a tuned S4 is about 90% F80 - and it just can't be beaten off the line, especially in any form of precipitation.

Just going to say this and I'm just basing this on first year. I may be way off.
To think you will get instant allocation for a 2016 may not be true. Seems like some of these delayed 15s may even get pushed back and turn into 16s. Is there a way for them to guarantee you will get a 16 on 7/15 or could it be pushed back til next Sept for example? Just my .02. |

Not yet. I have not asked the dealer for an update... my CA is on vacation this week. Hey GOLFFRR, can you look at any order # in Dealerspeed? I was still 111 over the weekend. The website is pretty hopeless, although they finally did get the new color showing up on the site as of yesterday! Took them a week to do that much!

I would wait, but I share the same concern as others about a delay in 2016 ordered cars. It also doesn't sound like your dealer is a high volume M dealer and their allocations could be few and far between. Maybe you should push for a great deal on a 2015 and lease it.
If you know you get their first allocation for 2016, waiting is no big deal. |

Sorry to hear, almost same position as you. Ordered nov and recently pushed back a week to feb 22nd. If I end up being pushed back into March I'll most certainly cancel and wait for a 16' or look at other manufacturers. Have a pretty bad taste in my mouth about bmw right now.

Yep this is right. They can give you the same thing your CA can give you. 'Estimated' Production date. Until it's in production it's just an estimate.
