Oil temp M50D?

Hi,
I noticed that on the F15 the only temp you see on the cluster is the oil temp. However, I don't know what is the normal temp for a warm car.

So far I saw two temps:
- around 90
- around 100

I am pretty sure that both times the car was warmed up.

What should be the normal temp?

Armen383, I know you have the same ride (despite having the AC engine upgrade), whats yours showing?

Thanks

While not completely relevant since I do not have an M50d, by X3 35i temperature increases during long trips on the highway. My temperature for normal driving is like your first picture, however on highway trips it is like your second picture. It bothered me at first, but I read somewhere that this is part of BMW efficient dynamics, where better highway fuel economy is possible with the thinner higher temperature oil.

As far as I have read, regardless of the configuration, the 3L diesel normal operating temps for oil is 215 - 230. Normal driving will stay minimum of 215.

For me it is always 100, once the engine is warmed up. When its 90 it still has a way to go.

Everything below 100C is normal When it's rather cold outside it usually sits around 90, and when it's hot or I floor it hard - goes to a 100, but not more. So your car is acting perfectly fine.

Mine increases as the engine warms up. During summer, I even see it going probably a few degrees over 100 Celsius. That looks like, let's say, half a millimeter after the 100 mark. Can't really tell how does that translates into exact temperature

Thank you guys for the input. I wonder because my E53 had a constant temp when warm . In any case, I guess there will be a warning if the temp goes above the normal levels.

Min has always always stayed put on 100 degrees Celsius. But one time during my trip over the holidays it stayed below 100 degrees (similar to the first picture). I found that strange and thought that it would go up if I drove a little bit faster, but despite doing 120 mph it was "glued" to approx. 90 degrees. When I stopped for fuel and then restarted the car, it was back to 100 degrees again.

Were strange behaviour.

Regards,
Niclas
