ATTENTION BIMMERPOST MODS and ADMINS

PLEASE, STOP CHANGING YOUR SITE FORMATTING. HERE ARE SOME ISSUES:

1) Names are no longer able to be tagged easily when mentioning people ESPECIALLY when editing a post. Please, return to the old simple @ symbol and username format. It was much easier/quicker especially for mobile, which many people use.

2) YouTube videos are no longer visible/playable/accessible in their current link format.

Please, notify people before you make these changes in some big bulletin or something, and test them before you finalize them into your site coding.

Mention tag works but they tried to somehow link it with dropdown menu, was it a security risk? Possible? Was it putting a strain on server when people randomly pick usernames or make a typo and VB script couldn't find that user? Did it struggle?



I figure this dropdown menu is a problem with mobile users, not sure what kind of script is required for that to work, users should be able to just simply type the member name.


I also wanted to ask why did they forcefully edit everyone's avatars to turn into a round picture?

Also, I asked in a thread once before why bimmerpost is not available on tapatalk. It makes it much better to keep track of all forums in one place, bimmerpost is there.

hyde, I'm already aware of how the current system works. The problem with it is that it is FLAWED. That's why it is being brought up.

The only thing I can think of is that it was the M4 video going viral and the site crashing shortly after that made them undergo these changes .

Site needs to be tested on all the major devices and OS. For a while I could not get to the F15 forum as you could not bring the cursor down enough to reach the forum, in the automatic drop down menus. I would go to a three series first and then use a different menu there to get to F15.

Plus everything Hyde and Opasha said.

Stop experimenting daily. We can take version changes but not daily tinkering.

This is still än issue for me on android, have to bookmark the F15 forum since I can't navigate to it from the mainpage. It's also not possible to attache photos to posts when posting from android.

Yeah, that's a hiccup especially on some phones. It lags in the photo upload or doesn't post at all. So, many members get funny replies from others along the lines of "awesome build and congrats, but where are the pics???" .

I don't think anyone has contact with them . Maybe we'll have to send some PMs to some of the mods in that M4 thread because a lot of moderators commented in there. I think the last post was one made by a very reasonable fellow.

So, I sent a moderator a PM about all the issues mentioned. Hopefully he responds and lets me know what is going on and what can be done:

How are you? I really hope I am not out of place for bringing up this, but I don't know how to contact the BimmerPost admins; so, I thought I would reach out to you personally after seeing your very mature/respectable post in the M4 viral video thread. A lot of us are unhappy with some of the recent formatting changes on Bimmerpost to the point where it has become very inconvenient to easily operate the website on different platforms (Windows/Mac/Android/iOS). I was just wondering if there is any way for us to make a petition or get in contact with someone that deals with this or if you could say something on our behalf. Some flaws/errors to note:

1) The @ symbol does not work for certain members like r33 and also does not work whenever a post is edited. It also does not not work for mobile devices. The old system was much easier to work with across all platforms.

2) There was a format change for Youtube video links. Now it will display as [utb]gibberish that isn't clickable[/utb] whenever we post a youtube link. I had coding videos uploaded in my coding thread that I had to manually add spaces in between the front/end of the link for it to show as a hyperlink instead to at least be clicked. The new formatting change does not allow you to view, click, or retain the original url. I'm not sure why they did this. I'm assuming traffic overload after the M4 youtube viral video? I still don't think that's fair since many of us use youtube links to help others on the forums quite often.

3) Photos don't upload properly from mobile environments. They either hang or don't upload at all. I never had an issue because I never uploaded photos in this manner; I always use the yellow mountain button and post direct links. However, many users use their phones to check Bimmerpost frequently and need this feature to function for uploading directly from their phone. It's an old issue that many have complained about and nothing has been done to rectify it.

4) Someone also brought up that there is still an issue for android devices where they have to bookmark the F15 forum since they can't navigate to it from the main page (bimmerpost.com). Another member noted that for a while on their iPhone that they could not get to the F15 forum as they could not bring the cursor down enough to reach the forum in the automatic drop down menus. It would go to the 3 series first and then use a different menu there to get to the F15.

5) Is there any way we can view and be notified of these updated changes to the website through some email, thread, or bulletin that can be subscribed to? A lot of members were asking for that because these changes are just thrown at the community without warning. Does the community get any say about any of this before testing and changing anything? I'm just curious. Also, I don't mean to offend, but am politely asking what the reasoning behind such changes are, if we can be kept in the loop when/if they change, and if there is any chance to revert back to some older settings that everyone liked/was used to.

It looks like they actually listened. The youtube videos have returned back to their old format instead of the weird [utb] formatting brackets. Here is a test to show everyone that it now works:
