Does my car need to be serviced?

My car has 57k miles on it right now. I last had the oil changed at 50k so I'm going to have it changed ASAP. My question is, how can I tell if I need any other services? The computer the car says I don't need anything for another year or two but I don't know if that's actually accurate.

Is there any way to know if the break need to be replaced other than looking at the pads and/or receiving the warning light (at that point it would be too late and I'd be rushed).

For me, generally, if BMW says something is X mileage for inspect/change, I cut that by 2/3. Oil at 5k, tranny oil (lifetime?) at 15k, brake fluid yearly, etc. Take a look at your maintenance recommendation or send an email to Mike Miller at Roundel. He has a recommended maintenance schedule that is fairly comprehensive.

I don't know if you just bought the car or something, but my general rule is to change all fluids. Especially if you don't know what the history of the car is.

Don't bother with the computer says, I never do.
