iPod Battery Drain

I replaced my armrest thumb drive with an iPod touch so I could use my iTunes files "as is". I connected the iPod with the USB / Stereo mini cable and seems to continually charge - even after the car is turned off and locked. I'm assuming this will drain the battery if I leave it connected. Is there a way around this?

I've had my iPod in my car for four years without draining the battery. When the car goes into sleep mode (takes several minutes of inactivity, can't recall the #) it cuts power to the outlets such as the USB port. Therefore your iPod should not drain your battery...
