Help!! Dropped bolt in engine bay!!
My brother dropped a bolt in the engine bay while trying to install a new air filter. We haven't tried starting the car because we're afraid to in case it could screw something up.
It's now too dark to try to look for it but does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do?

It'll probably fall out with continued driving. Or it gets caught in underbody shield

Take out the undertray because most likely the bolt should be sitting at the bottom or use a magnetic stick and poke it around the engine bay until it catches.

As suggested from above, remove the under tray and look for it. If you need to start the car don't worry, nothing will happen for a missing bolt from the intake box as long as the sensors isn't disconnected you will be fine.

If you don't know the answer to this question, you probably shouldn't be working around the engine.

You really don't want a dropped bolt near the serpentine drive belt...
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11957 The S55 should be similar to the above. Get a bolt in there and most likely the drive belt will snap... Last edited by Boss330; 10-26-2014 at 06:37 AM.. |

Good clarification and shows that the S55 has belts much closer to the airbox than the N55 (parts 8 and 9 are positioned towards the right hand side, while on the N55 all belts are on the left hand side)... Even more reason to be careful with loosing bolts down there

It was very nerve-racking but he finally got it with a magnetic stick and a flashlight!
