My rant about TV pop up ads
You know I’m getting a little fed up with these ads coming up in the middle of a show. I don't mind a little 2 second flash, but these animated graphics come on throughout the entire f'n program and just go on, and on, and on.
Last night flippin through some channels I stumble on the AMC channel. Cool “Halloween Resurrection” sweet never saw this one. Grab a Sam Adams kick the dog off the couch, prop my feet up on that thingamajig the wife calls a floating ottoman. I’ll admit just another crappy Michael Myers Halloween movie. But that’s not the point here. There is a scene where Michael harpoons some dude with a tripod, or at least it looked like a tripod. Now as exciting as that sounds I couldn’t tell you exactly where he was harpooned. Why? Well I’ll tell you. At that exact harpooning moment T-Mobile felt the need to tell me that they're having a sale on the new Samsung Galaxy S and that the next big thing is here. Next thing I see is that dude laying on the ground with blood spewing all over the place. F it! I change channel’s. click, click, click, click, click TNT cool John Travolta in “Sword Fish”. Saw it already but what the hell I got nothin else to do. Get up look for the dog and apologize for kicking her off the couch. Prop my feet up on that floating thing again and to my surprise Halle Berry was on. Man I don’t remember this scene. She bends over and places a golf ball on the tee in sloooooooow motion. Well, couldn’t tell you what kinda shape she was in cause TNT felt the need to tell me that Smallville will be airing tonight July 21st at 10pm Eastern 9 Central........ Now I’m pissed! Grab the cell phone. 1-800-COMCAST After hitting 2 for English, 3 for trouble with cable television I finally get a hold of Michelle. Now Michelle has no idea what she’s in for. I kick the dog off the couch again. Michelle: Thank you for choosing Comcast this is Michelle speaking how may I help you? Me: Hi Michelle, Do you have some kind of an ad blocker you can install in my box to prevent these ads from popping up every 10 seconds? You know just the way I have pop up blocker on my PC. Michelle: No Me: Ok thanks I’ll just watch Blu Rays from now on. Last edited by 2011CrazE89; 07-23-2014 at 08:22 AM.. |

It always pisses me off when they do that on ESPN, like when that robotic player takes up a whole corner of the screen while it does jumping jacks like a jackass. Even if it doesn't obscure gameplay or something important it's so annoying.

commercials are just as bad honestly. I am fairly certain that there is more airtime for commercials than a tv show during its time. an hour and a half movie takes like 4 hours on tv... like WHAT?? We need to take a lesson from Europe in regards to this shit.

I have cable only because it's included in my HOA, however I pretty much only watch Netflix, Amazon, HBOGO and Comcast on Demand IF they allow me to fast forward commercials, otherwise I'm not watching it. I love the Falling Skies series, however I cannot watch the latest episode. I have to wait until the next one comes out that way I can fast forward through the commercials. I noticed they started doing that on only the newest episode.

We're paying outrageous cable bills as it is and sit through all sorts of ads in between scenes, how is it that these networks STILL need enough revenue to warrant putting up an ad during a show?

I hear you; yet another reason I don't have cable (the primary reason being the standard ads). As I read in a movie director's biography, TV shows are just a break in between commercials ...cable TV exists for no other purpose.
Never been a fan of insidious commercial ads getting crammed down your throat in any format, especially TV. Modern advertising is sickening w/ all the influence from social/behavioral science.

Hold on... People watch "live" TV? Unless it's ad-free like HBO, I cannot be bothered. If it was not for my wife, I would have no cable TV.

I feel for you, DirectV has begun doing similar things, not as bad but they do seem to show up at a point and on the screen location which blocks what I am trying to see. I watch CNN in the gym and they block the bottom third of the screen with all the stupid things they scroll across the screen. The best part is when the newscaster is trying to draw your attention to something and point at it only to have it block by all their scrolling information.
People talk about google TV and how great it will be with streaming content, Google plan is to put ads in like the Op is now seeing. Since the know people can faster forward streaming content as well as channel surf when ads come on. You can not even channel surf on DirecTV anymore that have synced up all the channels and most ads are showing up at the same time channel to channel especially on anything which is the discovery network, hell they usually have the same ad running at the same time on all channels especially if it is a national ad. |
