F80 M3 / F82 M4 first (1200 miles) service guide - what's required...
New M4/M3 first oil service... 1,200 miles or 2K kms...
Since a lot of BIMMERPOST members are starting to take delivery of the new M4/M3 ... I thought I would put this PSA out for you. Basically, the first (1200 miles) service is just like on the previous generation M3. The only thing new is that now BMW says you MUST replace the oil pan plug/screw and differential screw/plug with new ones! The crush o-ring is now built into the screw. F8x S55 engine... Oil filter: 11 42 7 854 445 Screw for engine oil pan/plug: 11 13 7 535 106[/B] and gasket ring which is [/B] 07 11 9 963 132[/B] Screw for differential (2): 33 11 7 525 064 Oil engine quantity (6,5l) of 6.9 quarts. BMW LL4 engine oil: 83 21 0 398 504 (0w-40) or 83 21 0 398 507 (5w-30) Oil for differential/LSD (1l quantity): 83 22 9 405 462 NOTE: BMW says changing the transmission oil is not necessary. But if it were my car, and I was keeping the car for a long time - I know I would change it. The correct manual transmission fluid for the F8x car is 83 22 9 405 462 , you will need less than 2l. to change it (1.2l I believe). NOTE2: The latest differential oil for the M4/M3's seems to now be: p/n 83222365988 as of May 2017 FINAL-DRIVE GEAR OIL MSP/A http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=33_1838 UPDATE... some new info on the Launch Control not working until the first oil service is done at your BMW dealer. Also they need to reset the computer via ISTA and not with using the car's instrument panel! UPDATE II Here is the LIST for all engine oils approved by BMW AG for use in the S55 engine. BMW only makes two oils that are to be used in the S55, a 0w40 oil and a 5w30 grade. BMW Quality Longlife-01 SAE 0W-40 (vollsynthetisch)ACEA: A3/B3, EC II p/n 83 21 0 144 456 BMW Quality Longlife-01 SAE 5W-30 (vollsynthetisch)ACEA: A3/B3, EC II MINI Quality p/n 83 21 0 144 450 There are some other manufacture's of engine oil that are of different viscosities. Please see this pdf for them. ACHTUNG! Oil drain plug screws(bolt) are a ONE TIME use part! step by step oil change pdf from BMW AG... F8x Engine Oil Change (S55).pdf Dackel PLEASE NOTE: As of today, July 13th, 2016 it looks like BMW is spec'ing a different diff oil... No, not according to BMW AG.
Like I said(above), if it were my own personal car - I would change it! The proper fluid is 83 22 9 405 462 , you will need less than 2l. to change it (1.2l I believe). for the manual trans F8x cars. It takes less than two liters.

Good info to know, but do people really do the 1200 service outside of the dealer?
Or is this just to let people know what we should be making sure the dealer does? I'll probably be taking my F80 in two weeks. |

I suppose engine oil and diff oil are changed at 1200 miles. You would have to pay for the transmission fluid change out of your own pocket if you want it changed as well.

I wish someone would put out the "Technical Training Manual" for the S55. Those are always an interesting read. Mostly because BMW's marketing department doesn't have much to do with it.

It has no benefit for the petrol (gas) engines over LL-01. LL-04 was developed for diesel particulate filters
