theres another side to this coin. A m3 has such great handling and so forgiving.. it really would be hard to crash this car in my opinion. also, not alot of low end torque.. so he probably wont be flying off at red lights and such.

I would definitely get my kid a nice german automobile when they are 16.. not because they deserve it or anything.. but because i would know they are much safer in that then a altima that has too much power for the handling. German cars are very safe compared to hondas, camrys and nissans. but yeah, an m3 at 16?

Im 22 and i feel like i shouldve waited more to get a m3 to appreciate it a bit more. To me, it's just a regular car now after getting used to it..

its my 2nd e92.

Disagree with virtually your entire post. Any evidence to support your assertion that a BMW is somehow light years ahead of the Japanese cars in terms of safety? Or has power to outclass its handling?

I think there is a fair amount of hyperbole here.

And, dude, you're 22. Wait til you're 40. I promise you you'll feel differently.

I don't get it. Your dad was picking up his new "s class" and then ordered an m3?

Kind of random.

+1000!!

It's absurd. IMO you Dad is a total moron. Does he not value your life? This thread make me sick. I'm not hating on the OP because hes just a 15yr old kid, I'm hating on the dad big time. Where does he get off thinking this is even close to a good idea? Tell your dad to get on here and explain his thought process because at this point I think he is border line retarded.

BTW my first car was an 1986 Toyota Truck that was slow as hell and I bought with my own money. The humble beginning has really help me appreciate where I'm at now.

Do you get a Lambo when you turn 18?

Agreed. The fact of the matter is that the numbers don't lie. You are statistically several fold more likely to get into a fatal car accident as a teenage driver -- particularly because this is your first car. The fact that this is a 420 hp vehicle only compounds the issue.

It really doesn't matter how responsible you think you or your parents believe you to be -- you are far more likely to kill yourself (and others) than an experienced driver. Period.

As a surgeon involved in significant facial trauma work, I think this type of behavior should be considered borderline criminal on the part of the parents. Not because you place yourself at risk -- that is, after all, your choice -- but because of the risk careless adolescent driving poses to everyone else.

Spend some time trying to reassemble a teenager's face post-accident and then disagree with me...

I am beginning to think this is a bogus story ... first the OP tells us he just purchased a M3 .... then he goes on to tell us that his dad surprised him with it .... then he mentioned that it all happened when his dad picked up his new s class ... now I wonder if this dealership sells both the MB and the competitions BMW .... something just does not make sense to me at all

Might this thread not just to get everyone excited then the almost 16 year old is locked up in his room and laughing his head off I wonder

something sure does not add up ...

are you saying a bmw doesnt have better handling than a altima?

( i say altima because people believe their childs first cars should be in that range with camry or other lease expensive japanese cars)

are you saying the bmw doesnt have better brakes?

Better crash test settings?

Any car-guy kid is going to drive a little recklessly at a young age. we all did it. i'd rather have it in a bmw 328i than any of the other cars. the frame, the body of bmw's are of more high quality and better than entry level japanese cars that are missing those forgiving driver components.

** not trying to argue or anything, this is just a friendly discussion lol.

I'd like you to name 1 car I couldn't kill my self in. If I wanted to go fast, or choose idiotic choices while driving, I could do it in my fathers 1990 Nissan maxima beater. Just because a cars faster doesn't mean anything. After 120 mph (Which most cars since the 1980's can reach) chances of surviving a collision are nil. It doesn't matter if the cars faster. Yes I do agree that the car is a lot for me but Ive driven cars that would make this car look like a yugo.
My father is not moronic. I was actually going to get a 335xi (still fast) but he knew how much I loved the m3. He tried to talk me into a 5 series a e class and his '10 s class (all of which are fine cars) but the 3 series was my favorite out of all of them. But to finish up this post any car can injure you and I understand what you mean by 414 hp (temptation) but I controlled myself driving my dad's 380 hp s550 and now his 430 hp s550 so I am pretty sure I can control myself now.

Never heard of isringhausen imports? I'll post pics of the S class and order sheet once I find out how. I understand how this whole thing sounds bogus.

Idiotic

Must say as a parent of a 16 year old this is the most irresponsible thing I can imagine on so many levels. Your Dad has a screw loose. You don't need an expensive German car at 16. Let alone a 420 hp one. This will end badly.

No need for that, if it is true I sincerely hope that your dad has good judgement to let you drive a car like this. Further I hope you will take all the precessions to drive the car in a safe manner when you do get it.

In my mind his dad is not helping his son one iota in preparing him for the life ahead of him. He is actually harming his son.

This! M3 is not a good choice as for the first car. Even if I become so rich, my kid will have a old crappy car as his first car.

Anyways, good luck, drive safe!

+1 the only way to prepare him/her for life ... so much nicer to appreciate the finer things in life when he/she gets older

My first car was a beat up olds (no one gave it to me I worked hard for it) ... then I was just 21 and a immigrant to this fine part of the world

You sound like you are taking this serious. Congrats and dude be safe. I remember a post from a few years back about a young adult (I think around your age), that wrapped his father's M5 around a tree after speeding down a runway (don't recall all the details). I believe there were 2 or 3 passengers in the car at the time and all were killed.

My guess is the kids dad was a total loser in high school and now he is reliving his childhood through his son. The kids dad has more than one screw loose, the guy has lost his dam mind.

And to the OP, I cant think of a more dangerous car for you to have...420hp that revs to 8300rpm and RWD= totaled car for a 16yr old. This car will end up upside down faster than you can blink an eye, I promise, Ive done it. The car begs to be reved and cornered hard. Honestly I dont even like driving my M on the street because its asking for trouble.
