The premium seats should have the extendable thigh support unless for some reason they are different than the seats in the M Sport trim, as it definitely has them.

That's good news at least. Even the US website photos are confusing. I know we won't be getting the sliding rear seats, but if you look in the 360 interior shots when configuring the car, I notice the rear seats still have rails to slide on

I forgot to confirm when I looked at the two vehicles at dealer. They're also customer's cars so I didn't want to touch.

when I went on the test drive yesterday, the seats were the standard seats and they definitely didn't have lumbar support buttons next to the seat controls.

not really a problem for me, since I never use it... however, every member of my family seems to love using lumbar support. they'll just have to get little lumbar support pillows...

the salesperson said that the M Sports package sport seats also didn't have lumber support in them, although she didn't seem very sure about that. I really do NOT want M Sport package, but if those sport seats have lumbar support, I guess I'll have to order it... need to find a dealer that has X1 with M Sport package to confirm.

According to the ordering sheet, the MSport has the same sport seats as the standalone option. There’s no independent code for lumbar support in any pkg on the ordering sheet.

so basically, for us U.S. Americans, "no lumbar support for you! next!" (at least I'll have some homemade clam chowder soup tonight from the potatoes that I grew in my backyard)

I really hate reading the owner's manual... why do they think it's a good idea to show us options that they do not even offer in the US? I want a censored/redacted manual that cover up all these unavailable options!

(below is on page 96 of the owner's manual for the X1, downloaded from BMW USA website after entering X1 VIN#)

It is maddening, frustrating and absolutely ridiculous that's not being offered to US customers. What a disappointment.

my first experience with lumbar support in a car was way back in 1985(84?) in my dad's Oldsmobile. Ever since then, almost every car/SUV that I owned/leased came with it as standard.

I guess it'll be a while before BMW catches up.... IMHO, lumbar support should be standard in every car, not just BMWs.

Absolutely it should be standard, and for the passenger too. It'd be nice to have the massage function; I've never had that on a car before.

I'm holding out hope, against all odds, the sport seats I ordered were built with lumbar and massage components and can be activated in the future. But I'm a little less hopeful now that I don't think the dials for these things are even on the side of the seats. Big disappointment.

There's no way BMW would include hardware for lumbar and massage, but then NOT charge you for it.

But is there any rational reason why they would give Canadian customers lumbar and massage and not US?

I probably should not say this on a BMW forum... but if you want the BEST massage driver's seat, get the 2022/2023 Infiniti QX60.

It is by far the best massage seat in any car/SUV around $50k or under. In fact, I think it's almost as comfortable as the massage seat in the Mercedes S580 that my friend has.

I sat in one on a 4-hour trip from NYC to DC.... I was so relaxed by the massage seat, I had the best nap ever in a moving vehicle. When we reached the hotel outside of DC, I did not want to get out... pressed the massage function and sat in the hotel garage for another half an hour. It was even adjustable by using the display on the dash.

I think the sport seats probably have lumbar. Not sure about the massaging part. There were deletions last year due to the chip shortage issues and a prorated amount was credited back for my friends x4. I checked with my Ca if there were any deletions and he said there were none. I missed asking him specifically if the sport seats included lumbar

I'm not holding out hope. Every review I've seen so far of a US model with the M Sport did not have the needed switches on the side of the seat.

If you look at 5:36 in this video, this US production model with MSport doesn't have lumbar support.

Yes, and I have seen multiple videos of reviews for US spec X1 (with M-Sport, sport-seats as well as regular seats) and none had lumbar support.

That's BMW of Fairfax. They used to be my nearest BMW dealer when I lived in NoVa. Best BMW ever. Strangely, the very first time I went in was when I was waiting for my Mercedes across the street. (had Lorinser lowering suspension kit, tower bar and 19" AMG wheels fitted) I told the salesman that I was driving a competitor's car and was only there to kill time. He didn't care. Ended up taking me on a test drive in a 540i(?). The guy really knew how to sell cars. I ended up recommending him to my best friend who bought the 540i a week later. The salesman sent me a bottle of $100 Dom as a thank-you gift.(I would have preferred part of the commission!)
