Lumbar support

I think I've seen lumbar support on M-sport X1 based on European reviews.
For US, looks like it is not available in standard seats;
but is it part of sport seats and/or M-sport package?

I would think it is tied to the Sport Seats option. I think I have watched just about every video review on You Tube, and I'm still not sure - a lot of these reviewers are really good at NOT showing the bottom side controls. But there was a video I saw last week from Canada that had the Sport Seats but I didn't see lumbar controls (it also was a pre-production version, so can't be sure).

I'm starting to think they moved the lumbar/bolster controls to iDrive, like virtually everything else. Which would seem silly. But that's where the heated seats controls are, which are optional, so who knows? The CX-30 I just got for my kid - "Preferred" mid-level trim - has lumbar support. As has every car I have bought for the past 22 years, except a Saturn. So I don't see how BMW can be selling any car without lumbar support.

I've been watching most of the YouTube videos too, and the only one I saw that featured the lumbar support was white with the red/black interior, and the lumbar controls were in the normal spot next to all the other seat adjustments. Makes me think we may not be getting them, since it doesn't seem to be so common on the review cars.

Yeah, you can find pictures of the interior and the lumbar control is on the side of the seat, where you’d expect.

The Canadian order guide says that “487 - Driver Lumbar Support” is included in the premium packages, and “488 - Lumbar Support” comes with the active seat option, so presumably that means you get lumbar for the front passenger as well. Hoping my dealer gets one in soon to be able to confirm some of this stuff.

That would be a real swing and a miss to have NO lumbar support control at all in this car.

I'd probably miss it if it wasn't there, if the sport seats don't have decent support. The drives home after work are uncomfortable without it. Being 6 feet tall with poor posture, the lumbar support really helps me sit up straighter while supporting my lower back.

This video is of the Euro MSport version, with leather sport seats. At about 31:50 you can see the side controls, and there is no lumbar control and also no bolster control. I'm holding out hope those are in the iDrive....

Also, here's a link to an ordering guide for the 2022 3-Series, which has lumbar support. And also an ordering guide for the 2014 3-Series - the Sport Line pkg has Sport Seats with adjustable lumbar and bolsters (this is my current car)

Same code for Sport Seats in both of those as the 2023 X1 - 481.

I have just collected my M Sport X1 yesterday. Leather sport seats. No lumbar adjustment. Seats are surprisingly comfortable

No lumbar or side bolster adjustment on X1 as of now. In Canada it's a part of Active Seats package (or whatever it's called) that adds bolster adjustment, lumbar support adjustment and massaging seats if I remember correctly.
This and the lack of Driving Assistance Pro package (lack of, so far) are the 2 reasons I haven't ordered it yet.

Is there any reason to think/hope the sport seats for the US were built with those components and may be activated in the future?

In Canada the lumbar support for the driver comes in the premium packages, or for both driver and passenger with the active seats. I agree, it’s strange if it’s been left out entirely for the US market.

Controls on the side of the seat:

I doubt it. Unless the controls are already built into the seat base, I'd imagine activating them would require additional parts at the very least. I also read we won't be getting the extendable thigh support as well.

Wtf? Why would they exclude the US from those options if they're giving them to Canada?

Who knows? I'm just going based off the rumor mill lol. Just speculating, but maybe they excluded certain features from certain markets due to supply chain issues. I'm not sure why they wouldn't offer leather in the US, or offer sport seats without lumbar support or thigh extensions. I'd gladly trade my panoramic sunroof for some better seats!

My sport seats have the thigh extensions. Go figure. Strange that there is so much variability across markets. Our cars are very fully optioned down here as standard by international standards. But at this stage no lumbar support or massaging seats. Or the kick operated tailgate due to the chip shortage.

I have the kick trunk release in my 4 series and I don't like it, it's opened accidentally too many times when I'm near the car. Probably handy for a lot of people, but it's caused me headaches from time to time. What I'd like is for the Digital Key Plus to be integrated with Siri so I can just tell it to open when I'm near the car, that would be more convenient!

My digital key plus on the iPhone opens the car when I walk near it. I don't need to tell it it just does it

I actually was referring specifically to the trunk, so that you can remain hands free. I'd hate for it to do that every time I walked near the car lol!
