I fail to see the problem. That's why the pump line is so long to allow pumping fuel from the opposite side.

Most of the comments in the article were at best idiotics. Even Jalopnik remarked to the OP that this way of fueling was recommended by BMW.

i dont usually pump gas like this .. but i have to admit that i've done it before ... sometimes the station is just so full and i cant be bothered to waste time and turn my car around so i just pump it by stretching out the fuel line... i think its perfectly fine.

everyone has done it at least once. when the gas station is busy and everyone is filling up on the right side and their isn't a car in the left filling lane, you do it to save time. not a biggie

Their are things far worse than this. to some, its just a pet peeve

I hate them. and if you do it also, I hate you.

you sounds like you have some anger issues

plus costco pumps are designed so that you can pump on both sides on the car...there's a pulley on top so you can pull the fuel to the otherside....i don't see anything wrong with it....just a few more walks.....

its not like ur in a rush like a F1 pit stop....

people at costco gas are idiots anyways, i dont even know why I go there ive gotten into several run-ins- I'm going to pull my hair out one of these days
hahahaa....

i understand what you mean....unfortunately there are times when there's more cars with the fuel cap on the left side or vice versa....it'll be slightly quicker if a few cars go to the empty pump....

actually pulling fuel hose to the outside is more dangerous since gas stations are tightly spaced....you might be scraped by some idiots who can't space their car properly....

there's nothing wrong with costco and the people who goes there....its just how this society goes....you are bound to see someone pull in a car and walk to the pump...realize the fuel cap isn't there....restart the car and relocate.....

just take it easy mate!

there's no need to be fustrated about these stuff...

Screw it. Some people just have all the time in the world to sit at the pump. Thats why they have a 84' civic and no job.

I don't understand what the guy did that was so offensive. He pulled into a pump opposite the side of his fuel door? So? Why is that offensive? Who is it hurting? Maybe the gas station was so busy he didn't have a choice?

Either I'm missing something or the Jalopnik is a fail.

I don't have time to screw around. Never needed to do this myself - I try to fill up at non-peak times so the stations are usually pretty empty. But if it was full and I was in a hurry, I don't see the problem. In no way is that being an asshole if nobody else is using the pump.

+1

Just reading the comments annoyed me. This guy is doing nothing wrong. Great, let's make an article out of it and call him an asshole because he drives a BMW.

Those comments seem envy-filled to me.

I think the point is the BMW driver would rather refuel his car on the wrong side in order to beat the photographer to the pump.

you know what i hate more ? is when there is a line of 10 people waiting for 2 petrol pump sides i.e both left, blocking up all of the entry points into the petrol station.

Whilst i do no like people who cut in, i applaud people who are intelligent enough to actually go to a bowser that is on the other side. it is inconvenient for them, but at least it allows the traffic through the station to be unrestricted.

Just because you are the only left side fuel flap vehicle at a station doesnt mean you should have a empty bowser awaiting your arrival with 19 other vehicles there leaving those 4 bowsers vacant just in case you decide to fill up.

Nothing more annoying then people blocking up an actual road lane with people waiting to enter the station and seeing 5 empty petrol pumps.
