Alarm goes off randomly. Sometimes few days without problems then it goes off all day. I disconeted sensor under the hood, right next to air filter, it didn’t help. Last night i drove 5km with activated alarm. What shoud I do ?

I had this problem on my 1997 528i. Tried the same things. I finally pulled the fuse for the siren. So the car has no alarm but it’s better than all the false alarms at any time of night or day.

I am having the same problem with my 1998 528i. Some days it randomly activates and some days it goes on and off all day long. I would rather seek out the root of the problem instead of just pulling the alarm fuse so if anyone has a remedy to fix the problem other than pulling the fuse please let me know. Could it be a ground somewhere ?
I’m someone who likes my E39 to have everything working as it should but If I take out the fuse will my battery end up dying eventually if only the siren is disabled ? Does the fuse removal disable the entire alarm or just the siren? My 528i with the M52 has 352k miles and counting with no major repairs on the motor. I’ve fixed all the common issues these cars have such as instrument cluster and head unit pixels, sunroof drain, cooling system, etc…the list goes on but for now everything operates as it should. The alarm going off randomly is pretty much all that’s left. I’m having some vibration in my flex disc on my prop shaft which I’m gonna address soon and I’m also about to change my radiator hoses because they are feeling stiff. |
