Powering Seat - Looking for wiring diagrams.
Trying to power up this seat. The big input connector is black (instead of yellow) and visible in one of the later photos in the ebay auction.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/225101574388 With what is apparently this control module. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394193781143 I'm looking for a part number or anything else searchable on BMW's website, or at least some more definite information exactly which car the seat is compatible with, in hopes of identifying some wiring diagram traceable to the power and CAN bus pins. Unfortunately, '61.35 9' ... 'SM MF/M-HKLA', and other such numbers, do not seem searchable on BMW's website. So, uh, how should I go about trying to identify the relevant pinout? |

The black connector designator is X14*1B on the Driver's side....you didn't say what model year, nor what options, so I'm providing this from an F06 M6, per your eBay link:

Much more quickly than I might have thought possible, I have found that apparently I needed to specify/guess what car it was before the BMW site would let me choose 'wiring diagrams'.
Brand BMW Model series 6' Development code F06 Body Coupe Sales designation M6 Information about the 'A93' 'Driver's seat module' seems relevant. Graphics showing placement, pinout and diagrams for connector A93*3B seem to provide both power and CAN bus pins I should be able to trace to the more accessible big connector (or if necessary tap directly). |

tldr;
Connected the chair to power according to the third picture M_Bimmer posted, and also connected pin 1 to +12V. --- At last managed to get the time to try powering up the chair (some rather difficult things happened). By connecting Pins 1, 15, to +12V, and connecting Pin 16, to GND, I was able to make some of the controls work. Forward/Backward works. Angle works. Height down works. Tilt forward works, but quickly ran to limit of its range - used to be click and motion, now just click. Shoulders forward/backward works. Thigh support forward/backward works. Backrest width increase/decrease works. Height up does NOT work - click and no motion. Tilt backward does NOT work - no clicking noise. Headrest up/down does NOT work - no clicking noise. Curvature (all four controls) does NOT work, though significant power draw less than the 5A limit on this PSU is drawn - click, delay without motion, click. Connecting to a much higher amperage power supply did not change these behaviors. Hopefully, I just need to connect +12V/GND to more pins, or is the seat defective? Have you gotten any more of the seat functionality to work yet? I am just starting to try and get some F83 seats to work in a standalone application in a non-BMW vehicle and the connector seems to be wired identical.
Also, I know with the older seats (e.g., E90) people have had to trick the CAN bus into thinking it has a signal in order to keep the power seats functions working for more than 10 or 15 seconds after power is supplied. Did the functions that were working for you keep working or did they stop working after a short period of time like on the older seats? |

Any updates on this? I've got a pair of similar seats out of a 2012 650i F13 I'm trying to get working for an older car. I've tried powering the pin 1 solid red, Pin 15 Red/Brown and all of the brown wires to -12v negative and I get no movement from any of the switches. I've tried the switches right after making the power connection so its not timing out due to lack of CAN signal. I'm starting to think my seat modules might be bad...
Attached is a pin diagram I made identifying the color and function of each pin, there are a few I've still yet to identify. Also noted the color difference for driver's side vs passenger side. Any suggestions? UPDATE: After some thought I was wondering if the seats had some sort of orientation sensor, I had the seats laying on their backs so I could access the wires on the bottom. I powered the seats while in the upright position and it looks like all the power seat functions work!! Need to play around with it some more, but I have to go and wanted to update before anyone wasted anytime. Last edited by Red-Duc; 03-24-2023 at 08:25 PM.. |

Tried putting the seat upright, no change, as described previously, things still don't work.
I might try to get a new computer module. The seat belt on this chair seems somewhat messed up, as if the belt tensioner has gone off. Maybe a new computer won't 'remember' to lock out stuff like seat tilt. EDIT: Managed to get tilt barely working by using better gator clamps. Seems electrical resistance is a big thing. EDIT: Nope, the tilt won't go back the other direction now. Still broken. Last edited by mirage335; 06-10-2023 at 11:28 PM.. |

CAN bus is now my only significant issue. I seem able to cause the seat to resume working by touching the CAN bus wires to power/ground, but it's not reliable. Nor is anything I send through a 555 timer reliably keeping the seat working, though I do seem able to cause it to turn on again frequently.
Other issues were apparently mechanical. Lowering the seat lift to minimum makes all the other motion controls work. Seems this seat was in enough of a wreck to bend it. |

Seat lift now also works, though at the bottom of its travel range, it does tilt (presumably indeed a bit bent). Apparently the chair needed to wear in quite a bit, being just jammed up a bit from whatever wreck it was in.

I got the seat to move, but only for a few first seconds
EVERYTHING MOVES & WORKS!! .. just 12 volts for now, but now I have to build that PCB shown on YouTube by the one guy who managed to hack the can/bus.
