Misses car has crapped it's last turd. Semi BMW related

So she has an older 2012 Hyunda Sante Fe, great for beach and camping and so forth but hate it. Anyway it eats starters turns out it has a nasty dead spot on flex plate and it's rusting now on the underside. nightmare car. Owes 1200 on it gonna take negative equity or part it out?

Thinking of getting her a 2013-15 X3 28i as I don't need the insurance hit for turbo and her bad driving.

I had considered a Mazda CX-5 but it's a little smaller or heck a Chevy Equinox. Any suggestion and personal recommendation having owned one.

Tired of this lemon. It needs to go and she now has my Touring which I am very displeased with.

Hey Western Mass. Me 2 ...
What about the Mazda cx50. A bit bigger ?
Mazda's have good reviews. Late model Chevy's scare me.. But this coming from.a Ford fan (for domestic brands), so a bit bias on my part maybe..

How’s her history in terms of cars breaking? Women in many cases don’t take care of their cars and from my limited experience find ways to break X3’s

I’d get her a highlander, 4runner or used lexus suv instead.

The mazda you mentioned seems well liked by their owners I just have no experience at all with mazda’s.

Those 3 are out of my range of what I want to spend at this time. She drives by braile.....when Parking I think.

Looked at a Ford Escape a when we were shopping and bought the Sante Fe. It was an eco boost and I did not want deal with a dead Turbo.

I do the maintenance for the most part but that SF has overwhelmed me with BS and it has just nickel and dime'd me non stop over 4 years.

I’m on my third Equinox (company car). For the money, they’re actually good little cars. I’m only at about 20k miles or so on this one, but no problems aside from the occasional interior rattle. I know MANY other people with the same car without issue. In some ways, it has more interior room than my wife’s Land Cruiser. I regularly get ~30mpg. I think sticker on the thing was mid $20k?

What are the turbo comments? Pretty much anything you find has a turbo nowadays - my lower trim Equinox included.

Turbo as in 35i for an X3 vs X3 28i The used Ford Eco-boost with 100k Miles and 3 maybe 5 oil changes make me leary.

I heard nothing but good things about mazda from friends and family who own them. Both sedans and suvs. No horror stories that i know of just regular maintenance items like any other brand would need.

Financially I would go with Mazda. I myself am finished with German cars and Ford as well. Only buying Honda, Toyota or Mazda from now on. Tired of getting screwed on overpriced parts and over engineered cars.

Those brands are fine for FWD appliances. I do know they come in (pseudo) AWD form, but they are still nose-heavy FWD biased conveyances. I will never own a FWD car again! Growing up with RWD cars (other than Cadillac, no FWD available until the Honda) and having my share of FWDers, I've become a bit of a RWD snob.

I am too but I live in NE and it has snow rain and ice vs Sunny San Diego.

I am considering looking at this but it lacks a few things I'd like.

I had a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium for a little while.
I enjoyed it a fair bit. Very spacious cargo area. Front seats had good room. A crap ton of driver assistance.
I disliked the FWD steer and smaller rear seats.
For ~11k, ~50k miles, it's a great value.

That would be my choice, or a CX-5.

We drove CX-5's this weekend, slow shifters and typical of an economy cars Nice but a maybe. We also drove Subaru Crosstrek's liked the Mazda better then we drove a Lexus RX F type. AWD and all bells and whistles, we like that alot. Same fuel economy as the sante fe. Now this was at an employer's lot. I did their new garage for them during Covid. It has been on the lot for 90 days and I know what they paid for it and I can buy it at cost. Car was a lease for 30 months then bought it at end. So one owner according to carfax and Dealer maintained has 4 month old tires on it.

It's priced the same as the lesser cars and probably the best thing we have looked at so far. It's probably less in insurance too.
