If OP's friend takes it to the track, that is awesome, but for the streets, it's like having blue balls haha.

My 2 cents:
I own an R8, and I have indeed ridden in a twin turbocharged R8 that made about 1400 hp. I did experience the speed. Frankly, I'm not into any of it. Maybe that is exciting for some people, but not for me. In fact, I think it kind of ruins the car. The R8, particularly the Performance model, is already damn fast enough. Plus I LOVE the naturally aspirated character of it. I just don't see why people add turbos to these things, I mean if you want fast then just get a stupid Plaid and get it over with. Just my 2 cents, once again. To each their own

Even if you don’t drive in the twisties, that’s still not my point. I think there are some people who just don’t understand what a perfectly balanced car is, and think that making something as fast as possible is what you should always do when driven the chance.
I view doing that as akin to adding whiskey to fine wine. |

I agree I would never compromise the na v10 sound on mine, if I ever really had the desire for more power I would just put a VF blower on it and be done.

Hmmm... As I've stated, definitely bonkers power.
But I can't and won't knock someone for modification to their Car or Supercar. The mods are high quality and high dollar. He's had this car and mods for a couple of years now and it's totally daily drivable and maintenance. So if anything, props to him and his choices. |

This is actually one of my dream cars/builds. Though, I'm aiming for the 1st gen R8 V10 Plus with the 6 speed manual. It will also be twin turbo, though not sure on power level at this time. Why? Because I love turbos, and have been dreaming of a TT V10 since childhood.
I've been in many fast cars, and it is addicting [for the right person]. While it may not be for everyone and all areas, it is definitely special. Which is the main point, special. Sure, the NA V10 is special all by itself. And becomes even more special when you add more power to it. For those that want to maximize the powerband while increasing power output and not hindering drivability or muting sound, VF engineering makes a fantastic S/C kit that does just that. For others (myself included) We love the whirling spirit of turbos coupled to an engine. It's a whole experience, and the power/torque added is big bonus. Just like some don't understand why we do it, we don't understand why you 'wouldn't' enjoy it. It has long since been proven, in the realm of mods and racing, that the Audi V10 platform is one of the best for mods. Which is why it gets used. For those that put "balance" from the factory as the end-all be-all performance benchmark, those types usually buy Porches for that reason. Most Audi/Lambo owners like to personalize their cars, I've noticed. |

That's INSANE power and I've seen R8s that walk all over Plaids but the overwhelming majority of cars that I've owned have been turbo'd/supercharged and personally, NA engines are 10000000000000000x better from sound to responsiveness. I enjoy the NA V10 in my R8 so much more than any of the more powerful TT/SC cars I've had.
Every time someone tells me "there's no lag" or "it's super responsive," it's complete horsechit. Some turbocharged cars, especially newer ones, are better than others but it's still not even close to NA. Superchargers I enjoy more but the amount of heat they generate is outrageous and the 5.2 V10 is a high compression engine so the thought of adding a SC to it bugs me out - even though I know there's a bunch of good builds out there. |
