Ceramic coat wheels- Does it work?
Interested to see what this has done for cleaning the brake dust off. Can you easily wash the wheels with a foam cannon and quick rinse? Or does it still require a lot of elbow grease?

Even with a brake buster/pressure washer, there will still be residual brake dust. I say it requires "less" elbow grease and stays clean slightly longer.

I've had great luck with Wipe New, believe it or not. It certainly doesn't repel dust, but makes it really easy to clean off. I'm a little leery of these wheels, since they're so intricate, but I have been contemplating it (no clue if it's ceramic, but it's something akin to it at the very least)

Won't make the rinse only...but as was mentioned, using a wheel woolie and some soapy water is sufficient to clean instead of fighting the brake dust.

Definitely worth doing, I uses Gtechniq C5 works really well and lasts a long time, wheels beend burshing and wiping for cleaning but there is no sticky or stuck on dust, like above removes elbow grease requirement.

Good info. I think I will try this. Remove the wheels to get at the barrels better and do the calipers too.
What Gyeon for the wheels? They have multiple products, Pure, Mohs etc. Last edited by Soylent; 05-21-2022 at 08:02 PM.. |

I plan to ceramic coat my wheels and calipers. If I ceramic coat the barrels of the wheels if I need a tire replaced will the wheel weight stick or will I have to try and remove all the coating ?

Gyeon have a product called Rim. I use this twice annually and find out really works well. I take the wheels of to do the barrels as well.

+1 on benefit of ceramic coating rims, both for cleaning and drying. P&S Brake Buster gets most of the brake dust without agitation (okay for 'light days' when I'm pressed for time), but otherwise I still undergo my wheel/tire brush regimen to lightly agitate the cleaner. I also use a leaf blower to expel 90% of the water during the drying step. Results are consistently great.

I had this same question recently when getting wheels coated. I was told by what I believe to be a pretty reputable shop that does a lot of high end cars that this isn't an issue. So I went for having the barrels coated. We'll see I guess.

I had it professionally installed..$600.
Is it worth it? Eh, it makes it easier but it's not rinse off like the shop told me it would be. I use Sonax on the wheels to get the brake dust off then wipe with a cloth to remove any excess. Imo Sonax is the workhorse here along with my elbow grease. I would make the argument that $600 of Sonax may outweigh the benefits of the ceramic coat.

I'm surprised there isn't more talk about replacing the pads for a few hundred $$. If you don't track your car…..what's the disadvantage to having aftermarket low dust pads put on?
