Clothes dryer vent falling off
I have tried regular caulk from a caulk gun as well as that yellow stuff in a can.None of it holds up. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ever tried the famous Flex Seal stuff? I have used in on smaller things and worked well for me... Full disclosure, I've never made a boat out of it!

Is that brick veneer or an actual masonry wall?
1) You want to mortar the vent pipe perimeter to the bricks/hole ID. 2) Embed the pipe OD @the flange in poly sealant...Quad4, Sikaflex, etc. 3) Once everything is set up, run a bead of the same type sealant (matched to brick mortar/tuckpointing) around the flange edge. -Mark in St. Louis |

Seriously though, get a lot of steel wool stuffed in the gap before you seal the edges. That thing is a rodent highway straight into your laundry room if you don't plug it solid with something that they don't find pleasant to chew.....

Silicone. If you really want to do a pro job find an area of your house where you can scrape away some of the concrete between the bricks. Mix it with clear silicon and apply it. It will blend in perfect. This trick also works to hide cables (I.e. speak cables etc) on a brick wall.

Home Depot or Lowe’s for newer vent. Better to have a new pipe through the wall piece and new duct from dryer to pipe. Proper screws for mortar or brick,
If I could do this anyone can do it. Last edited by overcoil; 07-19-2020 at 02:41 PM.. |

Yep as others have said, get a new vent. I did with proper screws into concrete and also needed a 4” extension piece to make it back into the basement. Wasn’t a big deal. Good luck.

While you’re doing this, I highly recommend getting the dryer vent clean kit at Lowes or HD. It is cheap, attaches to a drill and will clean out the pipe all the way back (better if you have a vacuum attached to it). I pulled out over a cubic foot of lint when we moved into the house (no warm air had been going out), and that was a real fire hazard. I try to do it about once a year now, because our vent has several bends/elbows in it (stupidly).

Oh, I thought you were going to ask how to connect the damn flex-hose to the back of the dryer and the external vent

I used something like this. 4 Tap Con screws plus exterior silicone sealant. Done.
