Update:
Well not really an update. I haven't heard a peep from my cousin and now I wish I've never contacted him in the first place. IMHO it's a slap in the face and instead of being thankful he is most likely mad at me for not supporting him. As ppl on here have said, "fuck him"! |

So,
Not a peep from my cousin after almost three months. However, two weeks ago my wife and I have been hanging out with her cousin for some time (25 year old, got through a nasty divorce) and was gonna go on a date with some girl he met on Tinder. My wife asks me if he can borrow $60. So because I'm thinking if I say no then I'll hear her say, "but you gave $135 to your cousin and you won't loan my cousin $60? He's not like that, he said he'll pay us back when he gets his check next week". So without arguing I said no problem. I handed him the money, was very thankful. Fast forward to last week, said he'll pay me Sunday morning. I forgot about it as I took my son to little league practice for a good 3 hours and was doing things around the house. Yesterday I remembered, called him up, got a voicemail. I text him, said he was at the gym and ignored my texts about the $60. Am I shocked? No but this is the last time. Shame on me for sure. |

Yeah, I assumed it but just like my cousin, this guy has lost my respect.

Broke = no pussy That's just how it is. I ain't your job to support these vampires. Remember everyone is thankful when you hand them some cash.. Their attitude changes once it's time to collect. If he couldn't cough up $60 last week, he probably won't be able to do it this week either.. Out of principle I would make it my point to get that money.. Shit I'd be right up in the gym giving him a spot on the bench.. Once failure sets in I'd be like "it's $60 for a spot bro". Last edited by Delta0311; 02-12-2016 at 10:00 AM.. |

Yeah my wife feels bad but I told her that it was a $60 lesson. Also his father text my wife saying that he doesn't have a job now when he has been telling us he's been doing repo jobs for the past two months. Everyone on my wife's side of the family has money issues and they think because I live in Miami I'm wealthy. Even her sister asked me for $700 last month to which I replied, "I was about to ask you for $250".

Don't even respond. If someone asked me for money other than my two blood sisters, I'd tell them to kick rocks and to find a new financial adviser.

I just read the first post. Sounds like my wife's now-deceased stepfather. Guy lived in a fantasy of his own making, unfortunately he pulled my MIL into it. Begged money from everyone, even ex-laws. He'd write these long pleading letters ending in requests for a $5K check "to keep your <mother/sister/aunt/cousin> (a.k.a. his wife) living the life she deserves". When he died we found out how bad it really was. He left her with a mountain of debt, unpaid bills, and angry former associates. And no money. Worse, he had hocked anything of value, going so far as to have diamonds removed from rings and replaced with glass. A real piece of work. I'm glad he's gone.
And I have zero patience or tolerance for people like him. They only bring pain to themselves and those around them. I'd rather lose a friend by telling them the truth about their chosen mate than sit by and do nothing and watch the horror show unfold. /rant |

My brother, sister, and myself have always loaned $ to each other at dif times in our lives. Always paid back with interest. My other favorite is inherited property/$: How this breaks families up rather consistently. We, collectively inherited a sizable amount of property and $ from our favorite aunt and uncle when they died. It sat for a 2 years before we even began to deal with it and only because the attorney insisted. To the OP: You did you good deed. Now move on. You're a good guy. |

A friend of mine and I passed the same $100 back and forth for well over a year while we were both going through rough times. Now he lives out of state but we still joke about it from time to time. Outside of that, I don't really feel good loaning people money outside of my immediate family. If I do, I count on it being a gift.
