Been at work all day, but here a couple that I can share taken with the new lens. Im still trying to learn how to get the best out of it. But I am impressed with how well its worked at these two events.

I know you're trying to get some blur on some of those, but don't be afraid to go up to ISO 800 and ETTR ("Expose To The Right").

I just pulled the trigger on the fuji xf 16mm f/1.4. All my fuji gear is starting to be smaller versions of my canon gear. The once small and portable kit is now not so small.

I shoot half a stop right most of the time, though. Days are bright enough but I also end up using an ND filter or a polerizer (depending on what I want). And unfortunatly those cut out just a bit too much lght to ettr on the 7D while getting the type of shot I usually like. That being said I'm really happy with that ford shot. Like I said in an earlier comment, I'm still trying to learn how to get that out of it all the time. |

Trying to get back into photography again now that I have a new camera to play with. Hardest part is getting out of the house. I do nothing but drive at work all week, so when I'm off the last thing I feel like doing is driving haha. Managed to get out of the house this weekend, a couple photos from some surrounding forests.
Since I'm doing this more as a hobby now, I'm hesitant if I want to make a dedicated tumblr to my photos or not. I would like for them to get seen and get feedback and whatnot on them, but at the same time, that's a lot of work for a hobby haha. |

If you don't share them in some way, then what's the point? If you live with that woman in your icon, I see why you might stay around the house. I like Flickr because it displays images well, is easy to upload and organize and makes posting in most other forums easy. There are two or three other venues worth considering. Flickr gives 1-TB of storage free and you can share or not-share very easily. It also has a social side, where you "Follow" people and they Follow you and comment and Fave. Don't be overwhelmed by the HUGE volume of postings, including tens of millions daily that are worthless. Find someone that you like, Follow them and look into the people that they follow. Also, the Explore function is useful for noobs. Dave

Wifey and I went to dinner tonight at a restaurant in a town about 30 minutes due east of here. On the way over we saw a perfect end-to-end rainbow arcing across the road in front of us. On the way back the side lighting and sunset lit storm clouds were awesome.
And I HAD NO CAMERA!!!! Argh!! Just a friendly reminder to always bring a camera. First time in years I was wishing I had an iPhone.

In Florence, last week, I noticed two guys with heavy duty Nikon rigs, taking pictures every which way, including pulling out their mobile phones to take pix of the same subjects. I was bemused, until my millennial daughter, owner of a 5D MkII, informed me that she does the same thing and puts her iPhone images immediately onto Instagram. Dave

I was surprised at how helpful the iPhone was when shooting antelope canyon. For finding interesting stuff to shoot. The dynamic range (lack of) of the iPhone really highlighted some dramatic compositions where my eyes had so much more dynamic range, it looked somewhat mundane. Sadly, i only used it on the way out, but that helped me capture my favorite image from that canyon.

Has anyone who owned the mkI 24-70 2.8L upgraded to the mkII version? A buddy of mine who just jumped back into photography after a 15 year hiatus, did so with a 24-70 2.8, 16-35, 50 1.4, and 100macro. Both the 16-35 and 24-70 are mkII versions which he's telling me are worth the price of admission. I've been waiting for prices to come down, but i'm not sure if that's going to happen anytime soon.
But with those lenses being his first experience with digital photography, and photography at all in the last 15 years, i'm skeptical of his opinion. (even though back in the day he was a borderline pro-photog) Just looking for additional opinions from people who actually spent their money on the lens.

No experience with either of those, but generally speaking, the Canon upgrades have been well worth it. The Vii of the 100-400 I have is crazy good.
Also, I just ordered a 500mm f4 ISii, so if anyone wants the still awesome v1 in the Bay Area, I will be putting it up for sale soon. |
