I don't know much about San Marino/ Pasadena/ Glendale area. However, if you are planning to venture into the city, there are many great choices in Downtown, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and West side areas.
There are way too many good places to list so give me an idea about a specific area and I may be able to make a recommendation or two. |

Urasawa...for me, has been the best dining experience ever. It's only restaurant in LA that stands out right now.
If you like Japanese food, it's experience you won't forget. Expensive. $300 something for 1 person... last time I went... for party of 2, bill came out to around $1000. You have to reserve atleast a week in advance and there's upfront charge when you make the reservation. Bastide was also one that stood out but closed. Melisse, Ortolan, Osteria Mozza... all very nice. |

You want view? Fuck, theres a restaurant in DTLA that spins around and you get a view of the city. Google it Haha Madres (J-Los) restaurant in Pasadena is pretty good.
Edit: Westin Bonaventure hotel.

I agree it's ridiculously expensive if you simply think of it as food you eat and poop out later... but it's more than that. It's art, it's entertainment, it's a performance, it's the experience. When you can eat food made from best ingredients, cooked and served by best chefs in the world... experiencing and enjoying this with people you love... I don't know... 1000 a night is a bargain.
I have been to all the Micheline 3 star restaurants in the US and lot of 2's and 1's. If I had to rank Urasawa, I would rank it in the top 5. Only two that I can rank above it (in the US) are Alinea in Chicago and French Laundry in Napa. That's just me though. But every time I was there, I had a great time and everyone I went with agree that it was a great experience and thought it was worth it. |

The Westin Bonventure is nice. Really nice view because it's at the top of one of the tallest buildings in LA.
I also liked Lawry's (prime rib)as well as Mastros (steakhouse). You can't go wrong with these two places. |
