Insurance - Tracker

Has anybody fixed up insurance for F8* M yet and if so does insurance company want a tracker.

Surely on these cars BMW know where they are all the time and could provide the info to law enforcement but I see they I nclude a tracker as an option in the price list.

BMW insurance insisted on a tracker and even then couldn't provide me with a quote.
Admiral and AXA and Privilege gave good quotes and no mention of trackers.

Just got quote from Privilege £287 including protected no claims, legal, hire car plus & no voluntary excess. I had a major claim (e92 m3) with them 3 years ago and they were great, especially with a whiplash claim 2 years after the initial claim. No mention of tracker this timr but will need to make sure before I go ahead

£590 from Admiral (which I thought was very good at the time and have already accepted annoyingly) - Having just read this post I got a quote from Privilege and nearly had a heart attack - £288!
That said it was not like for like (a lot of additional bolt-ons required at Privilege) - Once I'd finished creating a comparable policy it was up to £411.

I'll stick with Admiral now anyway + Once I had reduced the Privilege Voluntary Excess to 0, their Compulsory was still £700! - Watch out for that!

Neither require a tracker.

PS. I'm 35, no claims or convictions + 7 years NCB.

What is the excess on Admiral ?

Privilege confirmed to me that tracker not required. They asked if the vehicle worth more than £75k so maybe that is the cut off. Should have specc'd full leather and ceramic brakes.

With Privilege, no tracker required and I paid £370 all in including specifying engine chip (I plan on going JBM ASAP) as it's always harder to get cover for mods when already covered.

I paid separate excess insurance (£20 per year) to cover hi compulsory excess with Privilege.

Mad.

Separate excess insurance?
From Privilege as an add on or from someone else?

You may like to wander through the thread on the F30 forum "some b*****d nicked it" and the "part deux" to learn that BMW are a total waste of time in helping you find a lifted motor.

Try and old I-phone on one of the USB and track it yourself!!!

Worse than a waste of time they are I suspect witholding information to sell Trackers. Must be a chance that they could if they have the information be guilty of aiding and abetting the thieves or perverting the course of justice.

Having said that if my car is stolen I don't necessarily want it back, so gap insurance is a better bet.

I have found Privilige to be good. Only snag was that had Z4MC as part of multi car and they refused to cover it if I fitted OEM strut brace.

Anyone have Tracker Locate on their car?
Is it any good? Did you have it fitted by the dealer and did they price match?

Why would you want a tracker? If your car is stolen and recovered it probably hasn't been kindly treated and who knows what hidden damage to engine / gearbox / brakes / tyres. I have only ever got a tracker if insurance company insisted (it is for their benefit not yours). I believe money much better spent on gap insurance.

I have had Tracker units but not the locate. They are fitted by dealer and they will have to disturb trim and interfere with the wiring loom to "hide" the unit. On my E92 comp pack I was plagued by false calls. Also never understood how could go on a ferry crossing without it activating.

My thoughts exactly - if an insurance company require a tracker, move on and find one that doesn't. The last thing you want is a stolen car back IMO...it'll be tarnished forever more. Especially when it's a current model and you can just go and buy another one. If you have finance, protect yourself with GAP and you're always going to be sorted financially.

I hear you guys ... I wouldn't want the car back if stolen. It would be tarnished forever. I have purchased the GAP insurance with the car. Just shopping around now for insurance quotes.

Did you have to list options like alloy wheels black, privacy glass, adaptive headlights as modifications on your Admiral policy?
