My M235i: Evolution Racewerks Intercooler (FMIC)
Hello everyone!
My car was given the opportunity to test fit the new front mount intercooler designed and fabricated in-house from Evolution Racewerks yesterday. It was a loooonngg day, but well worth it! I got there around 11AM and didn't get to leave until around 11PM because of them being so meticulous with the fitment and quality of the intercooler on the car before they let me go home. They definitely took their time, but for those who know how in-efficient the stock intercooler is - definitely take a look at this FMIC. I would like to thank Christine, Fred, and Danny for staying the long day to make sure the FMIC was of utmost quality. I am VERY anal about my parts and my car, so I wouldn't be here if ER didn't show any signs quality in their parts . Dimensions of the intercoolers: STOCK: 20x4x5 Evolution Racewerks: 20x3x11 Impressions: Had no issues with leaks, fitment, and did not need to cut anything for it to fit. Did not notice a change in turbo-lag with the bigger core either and if anything the throttle response is a *little* better. Overall this unit is very nice and priced very reasonably! Please contact www.evolutionracewerks.com or call (626) 814-3403 with any questions. Independent Data: When I did the runs, the stock FMIC was done in 63*F weather and the ER FMIC was done in 70*F. I wish I could have done the comparison same day with similar temperatures, but I was pressed for time and had to hold out to log the ER FMIC on another day. Regardless, the ER FMIC held stayed cooler even though it was a tad warmer outside! I have full bolt-ons right now.
The ER downpipes were my first mod and it made a huge difference in throttle response - definitely recommended! I also have the ER chargepipe, aFe intake, MPE exhaust and the JB4 tune. It just feels like you're driving in cool weather most of the time because the intake temps don't get too high. I also noticed slightly better throttle response and better top-end because my IATs aren't going over 100F anymore. |
