Replacing 2013 M5 for new GTR
Recently the thoughts of replacing my 13 M5 has been coming up so frequently.
I like that GTR can actually start off extremely fast unlike the RWD M5. I found the wheel spinning really bothers me. I cant even beat a ZL1. No offense to the ZL1's owner, but M5 truly cost wayyyyy more than that car. I thought maybe driving a GTR can easily solve this problem easily. However, I dont know how much would it cost on the maintenance for a GTR. Does anyone here also owns a GTR or maybe friends has one? Also, I just wanna know how the bros feel about replacing M5 for GTR. Does it worth it? |

You'll probably find more answers on gtrlife.com.
Rather than just jump into another car, I'd try it find the time to actually learn how to drive the one you have now. |

Honestly, thinking that a performance car is all about 0-60 or 0-100 times is so one dimensional IMHO. That being said as a past owner of an '09 GT-R I can tell you that it is a great car, very fast, but also very raw. If you don't mind lots of noise; stiff ride; high maintenance costs if you track the car, etc. then buy one. You will however lose out on all of the attributes that make the M5 a multi-dimensional vehicle. Plus once moving the M5 will kick a stock GT-R in the nuts if you know how to drive it.

I had a 2013 GTR prior to my 2014 M5, it was a very fast car. I loved the power and looks, a few things i wasn't too fond of was the fact it was a nissan, interior quality, maintenance costs and ride quality. It would've made a fantastic track car, but i never tracked the car and i couldn't justify keeping a car i'd drive maybe 3 times a month. Maintenance was about 1850 at the dealer for the oil, trans, front and rear diff. the trans oil alone was 10 quarts at $94. i think it needed that service once a year maybe depending on how hard the car was driven. i still like the styling of the gtr as polarizing as it was. i got more thumbs up and grins from that car than my LSB M5. two totally different cars, GTR more focused sports car, M5 is a grand touring car. for me right now a GT car is more comfortable and as much as it costs i can enjoy it more.

Raced many GTR's, driven them, and spent a lot of time looking at them at car shows. It's an amazing car for the price, if you just want performance. It was built with only one purpose in mind, to go fast. But that's easy when you've got twin turbos, AWD, and racing slicks that are barely street legal for road driving. If you can afford it want GTR level performance but the refinement and luxury of a BMW, then I suggest you shop for a 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo or Turbo S. For me personally, I found myself standing in front of one once ready to drive it and I just thought to myself, "it's so freakin ugly, I could never own this car." But that's just me. Or you could cross German Brands. The Audi RS7 has all the luxury, utility, comfort, and convenience you could ask for and can do 0-60 runs in like 3.2s STOCK! The M5 will out-handle the RS7 though and you lose the DCT in the RS7.
And Bish is right, the M5 will beat a GTR on a roll if you are a good enough driver.

u should really learn how to drive m5
i cannot take off from traffic light myself sometimes if i kick too much gas, am just spinning my wheels, when all the cars are meters away in front, sometimes black cab takes me down from traffic light, as i have mentioned already on the other thread. but thats the beauty of it, u need skill to take off in this car under 4sec, anyone can hit pedal to the metal in AWD car and take off, but there is 0 fun factor, at least to me. my friend had 800hp gtr, i did drive it couple of times, yes its fast 0-60, but thats about it, shit interior, uncomfy seats (for long journeys), very noisy inside and especially after f10 m5, u will feel like flying low-coster, after flying in suite on emirates a380 flight. there are so many more expensive cars than m5 and m5 still beats them, so shall all those owners sell their cars and get m5? "I cant even beat a ZL1. No offense to the ZL1's owner, but M5 truly cost wayyyyy more than that car." - no offence, but thats funny and why did u buy m5 in first place? |

GTR is your perfect car. Point. Shoot. No skill required to go fast. You'll love it.
Have fun |

try doing a second gear 40 roll with that Zl1 and watch what happens
Even if your a newb if you just baby the throttle to 20/30 and really get on it you will catch and beat 99.9% of everything. This car is in a unique position where its faster than almost everything and not quite capable to really go leaps and bounds higher until they open up the ecu more and really start being able to beat lightweight bolt on cars [my predicament right now] because If we could get in the 800s I swear that DCT would be godlike |

Very true... I'm in the process of trying to acquire one now and its baffling how they treat a young person with money as opposed to my dealings with MB/BMW.
And lets be clear the cars amazing but its true potential is its modability NOT real world stock performance [at least in my opinion]. I laugh and laugh when I'm at dealerships and they tell me OMG this is the greatest car ever... Well no... My car can beat it from a roll while getting a butt lift and listening to B&O. I personally love the feeling of being FORCED back into your seat like no other, and while the m5 at like a 20/30 2nd gear pull is capable of this its not the same as a 700whp+ gtr. I would do a gallardo and UGR it but I have questions on the reliability of that, besides the fact that those cars kick your ass driving them and for me whatever I buy UGR, 458, Aventador, 911 Turbo S/GT3 its getting driven daily its getting driven how I want to [or until the law tells me no lol] so I'd want something that I don't want to blow my brains out every time I'm in it. That is where I worry the most leaving the m5 at some point as it might have spoiled me with its comfort to power. |

Yes, sounds like you'd enjoy a GTR. They are stupid fast. I have an excel sheet outlining the maintenance costs of one (I was looking at 2011s a few years ago) and the running costs are pretty high in the long run. But if it is a temporary car, go for it.

I was in the exact position, GTR or the M5, but after weighing in the pros and cons, hands down the M5 for me is the better car. Take the BMW M Performance driving school and really push your cars limit. Then you will see how fun and exciting the M5 can be.

Yeah the Datsun is a more popular car with boy racers who have nothing Better to do than chase camaros at street lights.
