Is 2 second cold crank considering a sign for failing HPFP?

Been noticing the car took a little longer to crank in the morning on some days. Before it would fire up within a second, but now on a few occasion it take 2-4 turns (about 2 second) before firing up, and doesn't seem to be directly related to ambient temperature either. Idling is still smooth, and the car pulls like a train like it always been in the last 5 years.

The car is still on original pump (car was built in Nov. 08, with 32k miles), the dealer wanted to do the pump and injector recall a few years ago, but I told them to hold off as I never had any problem with it.

The car only have a JB4 and pump gas backend flash on it, just had the intake valves walnut blasted two weeks too. Not sure if it is anything to worry about.

It could be a sign of the HPFP going. Could be a leaking injector too. I have had long cranks for a year or so now and I've just lived to learn with it.

That's a pretty good sign. Take the JB4 out and bring it to the dealer and get them fixed while you can

Could also be a weak battery. Check your voltage. Every time my 328 started having long crank issues, it ended up being the battery.

That's what I plan to do too. But I haven't been able to get any sort of codes (no misfire, pump codes, etc.), even when I tried E30 a few weeks ago, the logging show no sign of fuel system problems.

From what I read, most dealers are hesitant to do anything about it unless the ECU starts to throwing out codes.

I actually just replaced the battery just about a month ago though, as I drained the old battery completely when flashing the backend map. It was more than 5 years old, and with the weather around Chicago, I replaced it with slightly replacement battery from Autozone just to be on the safe side. Battery was registered/reset via the BT cable that I have.

There was a slight hesitance in cold crank before the battery replacement, but the problem seems to gotten worse in the last 2 weeks. Will check the voltage tonight just to be safe.

Well, the crank seems to went away completely after I burn through a tank of gas and fill up the newest one with 30/70 e85/93 mix. I did put techron fuel clearner in the previous tank, maybe that was causing the problem...

The E88 has been taking its sweet time starting recently, it’s intermittent and only on a cold motor. Takes a full second or two to turn over, it cranks right away. The HPFP has about 2-3K miles on it, so I really, really hope/doubt that is the issue.

I’m still on the stock battery, so perhaps that’s it? But I’ve never gotten a low battery warning before, seems odd it would happen like that.

If it’s the fuel pump, I’m gunna be pissed. Spent a month, about $2K, and 4 tow truck calls trying to get that nonsense sorted out.
