Glossy vinyl on mirror caps

I bought some of this last week to see how it worked on the mirror caps. I gave it shot on Saturday and I'm pretty happy with the results so far. You'd have to be looking pretty close to tell that it's wrapped and not from the factory like that.

Yeah I was actually quite surprised how well it turned out. Only downfall is the stuff scratches fairly easily so you have to be careful when pushing the air bubbles out. A cloth wrapped around whatever you use though works fine.

Looks awesome! Much better than my Plasti Dip versions. How close is the black vinyl gloss to the existing black gloss plastic around the mirror housing?

The gloss is very very close. The only difference you can see the vinyl isn't as perfect as a coat of paint would be, but that's if you're looking really closely.

I wrapped mine, and you can only tell that the housing are a little bit more of a deeper black when the car is in direct sunlight.

Will post a pic tonight.

Why make them black? I personally think silver on a blue car (or really any color other than silver) looks goofy. If they were body color or black from the factory, I wouldn't bother, but I dislike the silver as it doesn't match anything else. I also think $500+ for the BMW CF mirror caps is absurd.

I think a lot of us are just trying to minimize the number of different finishes on the car. The fake metal brushed paint BS aside, you've got black trim, chrome grilles, gunmetal (or whatever) wheels and the color of the car itself in addition to the mirrors being something different all together. The path of least resistance / expense seems to be M Performance grilles, black or color matched mirrors, leave everything else alone and you're good to go.

Ahh now I understand.

1. On the M235 I had thought the mirrors were a close (enough) match to the wheels - is that not the case?

2. I ordered the Melbourne Red and had thought the Gray mirrors on Red looked sweet - is that not the case?

3. I've seen Alpine White in person w/ the Gray mirrors and thought it looked great.

4. Is it that it doesn't go with Estoril BLUE, and the color is not matched at all with the Glacier Silver and Mineral Gray?

Are the mirrors not Gray but instead black on certain color cars?

Mirrors are painted brushed metal look on all 235. Not true aluminum like S/RS Audis. People are swapping for CF or wrapping in vinyl or plasti dip. I ordered a mineral grey set from IND. The standard ones do not match wheels.

Whether or not it looks good as-is purely personal preference.

Is there anyone here with AW 2-series that have wrapped your mirror caps in black glossy vinyl? Pictures?

I consider doing this to mine
