Just picked her up

2013 28i sDrive. Got a great deal, has every option except the sport steering wheel and we didn't have to wait 2 months for delivery.
Trying to find out if my 135i M-Sport steering wheel will fit; if my 261M wheels will fit; and how to remove the piano black trim so I can wrap it.

cheers

The steering wheel will fit and the wheels should if they're a factory wheel. The offset might not work out well, but I don't know what the offset is on them.

The black trim should just require a trim tool to pop the tabs

Thanks for the info. I've read that the dash trim pops off, best if you work from the passenger side towards the driver's. Does the trim around the iDrive just pop off as well? Is there a preferred method to prying off the door trim?

I debadged her today. Tomorrow I get rid of the dealer plate frames. Really discouraged that I can't find a "Save The Ring" plate frame.

Is that unusual looking 1 Series alongside an olive drab flat finish?

That's my Nina.

I found out the paddle shift switches are $370 for the pair (!!!), so I doubt I'll install them after all. I picked up some plain black license plate frames today and a lightning cable for the iPhone. My wife wants a Nurbrugring sticker but I told her the X1 has to earn it first.

Next up is an oil and cabin filter change. Then black grills to go with the rest of the S-Line trim. As soon as I find an alignment shop that will work with non-OEM parts I'll order the H&R springs.

Cool and very unusual. I had a 135i, sold it, miss it.

The 135 is nice but I screwed up and got a DCT instead of a manual.

The X1 performed flawlessly on our Bavarian holiday. It was the perfect size for 4 adults and luggage for 5 days. We're both really glad we picked it up.

Thinking of taking off X1 back and side badges. How did you debadge yours?

I put a strip of painters tape across the bottom, up under the edge of the badge I'm working to remove. Then I take an old credit card (I miss getting "fake" credit cards in the mail as advertisements) and work under the badge starting from the top. Some people also report good results by using fishing line. I do NOT heat up the glue, that just makes a mess. Do this when it's warm out but don't add any heat. I used to use a hair dryer but I found just working the adhesive at room temp was much easier. After the badge is off I peel off as much of the adhesive as I can by hand, then I use Goo Gone to remove the rest, then I use water to clean the area, and finally I spot wax the area.

Here in Germany you can order your car without badging as a no-cost option. I wish that were the case in the US. I've debadged every nice car I've owned.

Thanks for advice. At least I know it's only a strong glue under the badge.

Thanks. Lighting wasn't very good but it's hard not to take a decent picture in the Alps. I feel so very lucky to have the chance to live here for a while.

We packed light and two of the passengers were short, but we managed to get everything in without resorting to a roof box. Even cruising at triple-digit speeds speeds on the Autobahn and fully loaded we managed to get 25.6 mpg.

It's double sided tape, same thing everyone uses to attach badges. There are tons of how-to's for removing badges. If you're thinking about removing them go for it.

The X1's have a fairly large gap between the badge and the body. Heck I almost accidentally de-badge mine every time I wipe it down with a microfiber towel.

(I do see 6# test nylon fishing line recommended frequently to work behind the badge and cut through the tape.)

New grills are in. PITA but they look so much better with the rest of the black Sport trim. Now I need to wash her.

It does tie everything in nicely. The chrome on the sport line looks out of place since nothing else is chrome
