Returning a new car ?

Just was thinking, imagine this scenario

You order a new f30
It takes 6-10 weeks to be built / delivered

In the interim BMW have changed the options (like recently with the leather dash option)

Would it be possible to exchange it when yours was delivered? And reorder a new one with different spec?

Or is it between you / dealer and not BMW UK?

Would there be a huge penalty if it were at all possible ??

Would the dealer just sell it as a pre-reg ???

Its your car, if its on BMW finance you would need to pay that off and start again, it would most probably cost thousands

I presume its up to the dealer mate but I imagine you aren't technically in a contract until you sign on the dotted line. i.e you most likely could lose your 1k deposit. But if you re-order with the same dealer maybe you won't.

I wanted more options but my build was locked in, TRL offered to re-order and flog the other - great service!

I think it would be up to the dealer as to whether he lets you not take the car you ordered and signed for. You could lose your deposit and damage the relationship with the dealer. Probably best to talk with them and see if they would consider your car as a demonstrator. If they register it, the sale value immediately drops several thousand and it's not eligible for the low rate finance it attracts as a new car.

You sign on the dotted line when you order it, if the cars in good order then you can't refuse it because you wanted a different spec, but maybe the dealer can work something out, cant hurt to ask

The order is a legally binding contract and as long as the dealer keeps their side of the deal then you are obliged to take the ordered car. The only way to change cars is if the dealer agrees to let you change ie varies the contract.

If the price of the car goes up between order & delivery you wouldn't expect to be hit with the increase !

I'm actually in a similar predicament.
I'm a BMW tech at a dealer in the north. I ordered a f31 320d x drive msport with business nav through the staff lease scheme we have.
I ordered it on the 28th December and I'm still waiting for it. (Due 6th may)
Unbelievable price so worth the wait.
At time of ordering, business nav came with online services etc.
As of build week 10, business nav was updated but now excludes online services. (Must order business plus 6ak)
My car was built week 15 so comes with updated nav but no online services.
Therefore I'm am not receiving the spec I ordered.
I'm waiting for an email back from the lease company/BMW on the matter.
I know for a fact they can add it by modifying the VO but wether they will do it is a different story.
Not my fault it's taken nearly 5 months and the specs have changed since ordering is it?

Well that's different, they are not giving you the spec you asked for, if it can be added then it should be free of charge
