Two 6 cylinder cars, two fuels, 32 years apart

I've had a great afternoon of car fun. My mate has a 1982 Capri 2.8i V6 and it was a nice afternoon so I took him out for a spirited run on country roads in my 330d and then we went for a cruise in his Capri.

Such different cars, my 330d is much more refined and it shocked him how quick it was, even through the twisty bits. Sport mode doing its stuff and the adaptive suspension offering up oodles of grip. He loved how it pushed him back into his seat, how quick speed built up and how fast we were going whilst still feeling slow, controlled and comfortable...

The cruise about in his modern classic just made me smile so broadly. He has a non-standard exhaust and the noise from the car is epic. Think Mad Max... The car turned heads everywhere we went and as we had the windows down we got a few folk winding their windows down in traffic to praise his car. Even an Audi driver!

His car just felt so right, great for relaxed sunny day cursing and pleasure driving. It felt great to be in a car, even as a passenger, that communicated absolutely everything.

The result of the afternoon could be expensive all round. His daily drive is a E46 320d, now he wants an E90 330d and I want something they feels really connected to play with...

My mate was the same. I've known him since we were 11 and he always said he'd have one... Now he does!

So cool. Rare to see a Capri these days too. Remember seeing a cherry red one at an auto show once and thinking, that's actually a lovely shaped car. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely 2.8. At the time that was the quickest car Ford built in Europe.

I have a MK1 Capri tucked away, getting restored. Added quite a few uprated 2.8 suspension parts to it.

That's the fuel injection piping.

Yeah, sorry Alkidrew but I never seen a metal dizzy cap !

I remember when I was 18 and a pal of mine who was 17 was bought a Capri by his parents - how we all envied that fella !

This thread has now got me reminiscing about my Dad's Cortinas and my own Cortina too !

Capris are great, my dad also had them a gold and a silver, decked out with a trick sound system and graphic equaliser in one, loved going with him on weekend drives. Sounds like you had a great day- cracking pics!

How much better are old engines? Look at that Capri bay. You could spend hours in there, it's like a meccano set. Really miss mucking about at breakers yards and in engine bays...

Got a soft spot for Capri's - my step-mother got a green 1600L in 1969 and she's still got it! The thing comes out once a year to be MOT'd then goes back under covers in the garage. Mate of mine had a yellow Mk II with a dark brown vinyl roof back in the day, and a mate's brother (now sadly passed away) had a 3000GT which we all lusted after as youngsters.

Never owned a Capri myself, the only Ford ever in my possession was a first gen blue Fiesta XR2 with the 'pepperpot' alloys and a claimed 0-60 of around 9.5 seconds

Since I got rid of my E46 and bought my F31 I have been bored s**tless at the weekends ! No EGR to clean, no pads/discs to check/change, no bushes to change etc etc !

Ah, seemed a strange place and material! So fuel goes down those black pipes leading from it ?

I must be a bit too young to appreciate Capri's, just don't do anything for me!

Now the Sierra Cosworth RS500 though, that is a proper modern classic!

Yes, part of the Jetronic metering unit, fuel flows to the injectors in the inlet manifold.
