Piston Heads 430 long term report
People have probably seen this but incase not thought I would put a link to it on here.
http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=29843 I like PH reviews in general, they don't seem able to make their mind up about the 435. I guess they are saying it is so good at everything that it isn't memorable enough? Car testers are a strange breed.

Sorry, it is a 435 review and not a 430 as in the title.

I do wonder, with the performance of the top models being so close to the M models now, whether the "dulling down" is deliberate these days. My 335d is a phenomenal performer, I chased my dad in his Alpina z4s the other night and at no point did he even look like shaking me off, but I know full well he was having a whale of a time and I was just "cruising"

I don't read too much into reviews nowadays... Entertaining to read (sometimes).. But get in the car and drive it. That's the best review for me
Disclaimer: I own a 435i and love it |

I found the review a little odd in places. I accept that with a 435i you'd expect a car to be a lot more thrilling and exciting than it was, and that this is the PH audience preferences.
But then things like moaning about only getting 30mpg from a petrol engined car, with over 300bhp, with cycle carriers permanently attached seems daft. And ultimately, how exciting is a car going to be when used as a daily hack for commuting and carrying bikes around? I find lots of long term reviews of cars in Evo and PH a bit pointless as they review the car from a the perspective of someone who chooses a car from a A-road blast criteria only, rather than the reality which is the car has to be everyday transport, which provides some thrills every so often. This is where BMW generally excel in terms of getting the right balance for most people. Having said that, I do feel that BMW are moving away from dynamic brilliance as the differentiator of the brand to others makes, whether that's on purpose or just a consequence of diversifying so much and the competition catching up I have no idea.

There always seems to be an element of cake and eat it. Hopefully, BMW will stick to odd numbers being sensible family stuff and even numbers for fun cars, with Z as out and out sports orientated |
