Advanced Driving Course...
....is this of any use for uk insurance reductions anymore? Thinking of asking for this for a birthday anyway but years ago recall it had some positive effect on insurance? Anyone know?

I am a member of IAM (Institute of Advance Motorists). Passed the test about 9 years ago, and not really seen any difference in premium. As a member or IAM, they will offer you a slightly cheaper deal on your current policy but that's about it....
Saying that I would recommend anyone doing the course. All it's down to is common sense driving to be honest.

I went down the RoSPA route, if you're good enough they give you the opportunity to become an assessor. It's well worth it.

Trying to persuade my wife to do it when we get new car and for her new one when she eventually decides. However not expecting any discounts. |

Do it. Go in open minded, you don't have to agree with all there ideas (I don't). But you'll be surprised how you do drive slightly different afterwards.
I have also found that it doesn't really make a difference to insurance or if it has I can then find a better policy cheaper that doesn't need any advance driving. |

Since I retired from my full time job several years ago I became self-employed and do Courtesy Car Service driving at a few major sporting events each year. I took the Advanced Driving Test as much for personal satisfaction/pride/benefit,etc and found it enjoyable, been a RoSPA Gold for the past 6 years but have to say it doesn't make a damned bit of difference to my insurance premium whatsoever!!!

They should do, pretty sure that happened when I joined although if I remember rightly I spoke to an ex-work colleague about RoSPA first off and it was he who told me how to join up. Do you know anyone local to you who is a member of RoSPA who you could contact?
