Talking Car ordered, painful wait in progress....

Hi All

My name's Ade and this is my first post on this forum.

After having a company car for the last 12 years i'm coming out of the scheme and had to get something practical and sensible...... Well as much as i can anyway. After having owned some fun cars in the past (a fibreglass r1 engined rwd mini being the most fun one) I just couldn't face paying my hard earned for some of the faceless humdrum excuses for typical family cars out there at present.

So I've lurked around here and numerous forums looking for hints tips for bits to order for the first BMW I've owned since my younger days (20ish years ago 316....)

After much deliberation I've gone for a Black Sapphire (I know the herse related jokes here but I like a stealthy looking beast) F31 330d Msport with some choice options, namely

Rear and side badge deletion (I like stealth remember)
MSport plus pack
Visibility pack
Adaptive suspension
Lumber support (getting old now)
Folding mirrors
Black Kidneys
and finally PPK :-D

It should be a subtle change from the 1.7ltr diesel Kia Sportage i have as a current company car!!

Apparently she's in build this week and due for delivery 15th May, although the dealer was hopeful for an earlier delivery date.

I'm happy with my choices but annoyingly about a week after sorting out the deal and paying my deposit I found pictures of the aero parts and a 320 fitted with said parts popped up in the showroom .

Now obviously i really like the look of the car I've ordered but from some angles I can find myself thinking the front looks a little, well, "high". I think it is due to the raised centre section of the standard bumper (you can see where this is heading can't you). So naturally i have been looking with great interest at the splitter available for the car to help add a lower feel to the front and a bit of extra presence .

I am however trying to get a good idea of what is a good price for said item and if there are any drawbacks to it? ie does it make the front too low for speed bumps and real world use?

Any thoughts or opinions from anyone with or without gratefully received.

Thanks for reading my inane waffle.

Ade

Welcome to the forum.

You'll love your 330d. Even without the PPK it's a suitably quick car... I had a black F30 demonstrator for a couple of days with the additional body kit, it looks fantastic. However, I didn't even consider it for my own de-badged 330d. Stealth and subtlety etc... Flashy body kit may work against stealth. Also, I know I'd probably bottom out the splitter when parking towards a kerb... The rear diffuser is fantastic though.

You'll love your car when you get it soon...

Very nice choice. You might need to sort out the PPK a little later than delivery, as they need the chassis number to order, and lead times can be 2-3 weeks. I think my 330d will be picked up standard and having to go back a little later for the upgrade. Not too much of a problem, and at least you get to test it before and after.

Thanks all. It feels painful already. It's been ordered for about 3 weeks now and I'm really starting to feel the pain. Every drive in the Kia feels like I'm being mocked!

Interesting thought about the PPK? The dealer didn't seem to think it would be a problem getting it done from scratch and knows the times I'm working to. My current car goes back on the 12th... I'll admit it would be nice to get a before and after run but with running in and such I'm not sure how much I'd be able to really test the difference.

Yes parking nose onto kerbs is one of my concerns hence asking if anyone has one and how they get on with it, to see if it low enough to be a real concern. Looking at pictures it doesn't look like it lowers the overall height of the normal spoiler by much at all. It just looks a lot lower because it joins the two side bits (I don't know if that makes any sense at all, it did in my head).

I've even brought all my cleaning kit ready for when she arrives! It's desperate times....

Welcome and not a bad wait really... I stupidly went with Piano Black interior and that has killed my build date (20th May) so won't be seeing mine until June

I think the body kit looks really nice and and does set the F30 apart from all the "rep" cars out their.

Just got a call to say my car is at the dealer, and a provisional collection date of the 25th.

This next week will be murder. My current lease ends on the 19th, so a small extension.

Yes it wasn't cheap but on a brand new car didn't want to cut corners, I know I could eBay and get local fit but I had the moola

Lucky buggers with cars arriving soon!

I've been quoted £598 fitted for the splitter only, I'm not that bothered about the rest of it to be honest....

Danny you'll have to pop some pictures up when you get yours and keep me posted about how you find the front end

Keep an eye out sat for pics, I think the black sapphire bumped the cost as I had the whole kit painted body colour, also BMW use some special adhesive that isn't cheap last think you need at 70 is the spiltter coming off lol

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the pictures!!

You're not wrong about unexpected splitter ejection! I can't imagine it'll be much fun....

I need the extra bit of space and flat loading hence the tourer for me. Plus not many will suspect what it'll be capable of...

What build date were you given to achieve this delivery? Mine was supposed to be being built 18th April, now I'm emailed to say it's been 'consigned' (?)...
