Engine start
Car has 5200miles on the clock and today it stuttered for the first time when I tried to start it. It was similar to starting a car with a drained battery. I had been driving it all morning and stopped for 2 hours before the rough start. Anyone else experience anything like it???

Well, maybe - just once.
Mine has 4500 miles and had been up to Inverness and back, then a few short trips followed by about a week of lying around and being moved out into the street and back a couple of times. Went to head off down south and it seemed to turn over sluggishly when I tried to start it in the morning. Let go of the button, before it fired up, and tried the start process again where it behaved completely normally and has done so over the four days since. I put it down to imagination....but now you've mentioned it I'll keep an eye out for it happening again. |

I have had something similar on my 325d some mornings, I put it down to diesel behaviour on very cold mornings, my 8 year old VW did it when we had a prolonged cold spell a few years ago -5 etc.
Then a few weeks back the 325d broke down due to a faulty EGR valve, the behaviour was not dissimilar to what you describe. I have not had an issue since the EGR was replaced. My car has 4500 miles on the clock and is a 09/2013 build. |

Had a similar issue in my old 330d. Turned out 4 of the 6 glow plugs needed replacing. Cant believe that is the case here though as it is a much newer car.

There was a time last year in the winter months when I did not use the car for 1.5 months. When I started it after this gap, it fired perfectly as it has always done.

I have had dodgy starting before, changed where I got my fuel and it resolved it's self.
May have been linked may not, however that is always my first option if engine problems. On about leaving cars, with my previous job I was often away for 6 months or more. Longest was 8 months without going home, came home, reconnected battery, car started first time. Only issue was me getting in the passenger side as had been driving on other side for so long lol. |
