I thought I'd seen a lot of 14 plates around...
Turns out there were 464,824 new cars registered in March, a 17% increase on last year and the biggest month since March 2004!
3 Series was the 9th biggest seller in March, selling 7,782. Biggest seller was the Fiesta (26k). Some interesting stats from the SMMT here: http://www.smmt.co.uk/2014/04/new-ca...ions-march-14/ Since 2004: -Fuel efficiency has increased 35% -CO2 emissions are 26% lower -White has replaced silver as the most popular -Monochrome colours represented 62% in 2004, and now 71% -Blue is more exclusive than it was in 2004 (13.2% vs 24.4% in 2004) So, if you're thinking "there seems to be a lot more new cars on the road than I remember for quite a while", then you're right, it's not just because you're noticing them because you have one... (Life? I've heard of those, but I decided I really don't need one ) |

What the hell is the Dual purpose segment?! I can only assume it is SUVs and off roaders, as I didn't see that anywhere else...
It's the collapse of the upper medium sector that is really interesting - losing to people downsizing from Mondeos and Vectras in to the ever expanding golfs and focuses, or to the ubiquitous 3 series/A4 and other "premium" makes.

In the details, it seems Renault had a storming month, moving from selling 6000 in March 2013 to selling over 13,000 in March 2014. That's a bit of a leap!
Other smaller manufacturers have had big percentage leaps, but that's incredible. |
