The ugly bright yellow and red Airbag sign has been annoying me since i got my car! The interior is such a nice classy place except for that nasty American nanny state sign, in my opinion!

So, the sign can be removed with Methylated Spirits! First i removed the visor (1 torx screw under little cover on left side, then disconnect wiring plug) I laid a double folded piece of kitchen roll on top of the sticker and soaked it with meths, then wrapped the visor with cling film and left it for 15 mins. Then the sticker just peeled off!

Thanks to Torquein for his suggestions!

Is it correct to assume you can't just pull it off?

I didn't want to try in case it made a right mess! The sign isn't flat, it actually sinks into the contours of the sun visor material!

This way i can easily take the stickers off and return it to stock when i return the car.
Sounds like it comes off like paint without damage

I didn't know about that method!

Might try it on the sign on the other side of the visor, so if it messes up at least it will be hidden most of the time!

The paper towel method sounds spot on in that thread. Just don't know what alcohol they refer to ethanol or IPA, I assume it's IPA as you need a licence to buy pure ethanol in the uk. Apparently they stock goo gone at Tesco. Those resourceful yanks hey !

Goo gone looks expensive though, £12 for just 29ml on Amazon!

Can get 1l of ipa 99.9% for £8 on Amazon though, guess that would work?

Yep if that's the alcohol they mean (it must be I can't believe it's pure ethanol or methanol). I have half a litre of pure IPA in my detailing kit so I will give this a go. I reckon if you soak the towels and apply then wrap in cling film for the 10/15 min soak you won't need to reapply as it won't evaporate as fast. IPA stinks though so don't do it in the house

Just read this page about different types of alcohol, quite interesting:

http://www.brainstuffshow.com/blog/g...ropyl-alcohol/

Think ipa should work so i've ordered some. Will report back once i've tried it!

For me what is worse is the quality and feel of the sun visor. Horrible cheap nasty plastic. Disappointing for supposed bmw quality.

It isn't great is it, i think it's vinyl.

Maybe so they can have these airbag signs stuck to them? :

Its probably lucky it is, any other material may not withstand a harsh solvent strip

Did you wrap in clingfilm or just lay the kitchen roll ontop in the open air? Also how long a soak?
