DVD Movies

I had read in other BMW forums about playing DVD movies on their iDrive systems so I decided to give it a go. Slide "Fast and Furious" in the slot and there it was! Movie time on the screen. Found a good forum on BMW Coding where you can re-code the internal software options in the car add features that are hidden in some countries, like auto folding the mirrors on lock, displaying tire temps, oil and water temps, and even playing DVD movies while the car is in motion (I would never do that ).

I do have the Technology Package, but can not say for sure this is a requirement to play DVD's. Under Multimedia from main menu in iDrive system it shows the option for CD\DVD. This is the selection I used after inserting the disc.

BMW Coding

To enhance your new iDrive system you might want to consider this:

BMW Coding

What is Coding?

Coding a car means customizing hidden features that are otherwise not available/accessible to you via your car controls. It also allows you to inform your car that certain features have been added after you retrofitted new parts, which is normally required for your new retrofitted parts to work correctly.

For example, with the BMW 3 series coupe, one cannot roll up the windows with the keyfob remote from the factory. With coding, this feature can be enabled.

Tired of the legal disclaimer on iDrive startup? It can be turned off with coding.

Know Your Options

Coding is easy. There are DIY guides available and most of the files are already provided in a nice package. All you need is a ENET cable from ebay and a laptop to get started. This is a great way to experiment with your own car and discover all the possibilities with the help of this forum! This is the whole purpose of this forum and the reason why you are here.

My car (non-Tech package) says CD/Multimedia and does not play DVD's. Looks like a Tech Package only option to me

You can code without tech right? Totally new to me but sounds like some cool tricks esp oil temp.

Yes, BMW coding is using factory software to change the internal settings stored. The technology package seems to allow more enhanced features like the DVD player, but without it you can change other car features.

Hmmmm. Default to sport mode would be nice. Will have to investigate thanks!

Two options, go through the setup and education on how use the software yourself, or find someone in your area that will do it either for free or a fee.

I have too much on my plate at the moment to dive into the learning portion at this time. Will wait for more time later on then begin. Do a search on the subject and you will find a lot of information on how to proceed and get the software needed.

I will be using the digital speed readout on my console like I had in my E92 as one of my first changes.
