F30 335xd What a car, what a sound!!!!

I have just returned from over 2000 miles trip through several countries in Europe including a long stretch of Germans' Autobahn. The only thing I can say 335xd is just so amazing I could not even imagine. It is a wolf in sheep's clothing which changes with a push of a magic button. I don't know how many of you had a chance to drive this car the way it is built for. On Autobahn (obviously after magic 1200 miles) it goes with a blink of an eye from 80 to 130mph and over. You wouldn't notice when you drive 130-140 mph. Everything happens so quickly and the sound which comes from exhaust is just phenomenal. On sport mode and sport or manual transmission is the most exciting car and I really enjoy it. I have already forgotten about my fantastic e92 335i. It was so funny at one point after this fast drive when my friend asked me: " why are we going so slowly", we were going about 90mph.
From all the equipment I ordered I'm more than happy that I have ACC, HUD, speed limit and SV. I was very surprised that changing the setting from miles to km actually changed speed limit seen on HUD and your current speed is also displayed in km/h - very convenient feature when going abroad. But on the other hand if you don't change it, the speed limit seen in Europe is automatically converted to mph - brilliant.
I did not have a chance to check xDrive system in Switzerland as the weather was so nice with 20 deg and sunshine all the time.
So currently 2750 miles on the clock. The whole trip to Switzerland covered 2265 miles with average speed 60.5 mph and average fuel consumption of 41.1 mpg. That also includes driving in Germany with speed around 120-150mph. Is it not brilliant?

Excellent! I'm off to Nurburgring and Holland end April and then to Normandy/Le Mans in June - having merely dipped my toe with the 330d engine over here, I'm looking forward to stretching its legs with a few Euro trips.

I saw the gadgets on the F30 while on a holiday to EuroDisney last year (German guy staying next door had one and we got talking) - I blame him entirely for giving me ideas :-)

Excellent write up, it will all the 335d drivers drooling and looking for an excuse to 'pop' over to Germany.

Did you get adaptive suspension?

Yes, I have adaptive suspension. Car drives perfectly to me at high speed, I felt very confident driving. There was a "race" with Swiss registered Corvette. I was once in front, once behind Corvette, managed . Lots of pleasure. Obviously it was difficult to drive with all the time with that speed but this period which covered that returned with about 30 mpg )).

It really is a beast of a car. It must have been amazing to push it to its limits on the autobahn. Great economy too considering the speeds you were driving.

Funny you should mention it because no one has wanted to race me. I have the saloon version and it just doesn't look like a quick car!! My brother has an astra VXR and everyone wants to race him!

Mines debadged and no-one is interested in racing so I guess that is the reason. The car could be a 318d to the untrained eye......

That why I said it's a wolf in sheep's clothing .
the sound is so great and I obviously couldn't hear it from outside but inside it sounds so powerful with a lot of bass sound, I love it!!! It is different than petrol of course but great as well. The only problem is I can't here it in UK, it does need high speed over 100mph to enjoy it . It made me saying " wow" with a big smile on my face. As I'm so called petrol head and this is my first ever diesel car I was a bit afraid how and whether I could enjoy it. I couldn't be more wrong questioning it. I'm looking forward for my next trip in summertime, another nice run across Germany ))

The engine does have a great sound when it's worked. Older diesels can become clattery at higher revs but the 6 pot sounds awesome.

I had an E60 545i with the 4.4 V8, and now I have the 335d, and I can confirm that somehow this diesel DOES have the mid range bellow of the V8. Its the best sounding diesel I've ever heard, by a long way. It doesn't sound quite as good as the V8, but it's very close. Its fantastic. All those waiting for a 335d are in for a big treat!
