Michelin Tyre Pressure Gauge. *****

After reading a post on here a while back I decided to spend a little to check my tyre pressures with a bit more accuracy. On a motorway run I received worse fuel economy than I'd expected and wondered if I was running a little soft... I expected my 330d to excell on a 120 mile each way run. Though, it was relatively worse than slower mid distance runs in comparison to my previous E90 320d.

So bought this digital pressure gauge for £25:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Michelin-Dig...ressure+gauges

I must say I'm very impressed. It quotes an accuracy of 1psi and when set to Bar has a display resolution of 0.01 Bar. I can only assume the accuracy is good without having a calibrated gauge to test against. I believe it self calibrates when activated. I tested the precision with multiple checks per tyre and found it to be highly repeatable.

Having previously used cylinder type and cheaper digital gauges (broken) I'm very impressed with the measurement quality, ease and the construction of this product.

I was using a Ring compressor to set my pressures:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Automot...ds=ring+rac900

This has a display resolution of 0.05 Bar. My tyres were all inflated to 2.60 Bar using this and the Michelin gauge showed a range between 2.53 and 2.57 for my 4 tyres. The tyres were initially all at 2.80 Bar from the dealer, as measured by this compressors readout... So, I re-inflated to 2.75 Bar by compressor and very slightly reduced them to 2.60 Bar by the new Michelin Gauge...

Now, with the tyres all at 2.60 Bar by the Michelin Tyre Pressure Gauge the car feels just a little more bumpy. However, on my drives since, the steering feels better. The car feels more connected and more eager to turn.

0.05 Bar shouldn't make a huge difference... Though, it seems to have been noticeable... I know I could well be guilty of 'Confirmation Bias'...
