I know this has probably been covered so sorry but I've seen several people post about tracking manufacture progress using the VIN. I have mine from the dealer but where do I go to track it?

Correct but just put in the url www.bmwarchive.org because there is a box for the VIN in the top right. My build spec is still there from January but I'm not sure how up to date new builds are start 3/2014 perhaps.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass but how do people know what stage it's at. I've seen posts saying its in the paint shop or it's on the ship, how can you tell that?

Not sure I can help any further but there are some experts around who seem to know the significance of dates.

Production day is when it is completed.

Expect delivery to your dealer 10 days to 3 weeks after. Then depends how long it takes your dealer to prep it.

Ring the dealer, they can tell you exactly what stage of the production process you car is at.

Thanks. Hope the dealer does very little prep he's been instructed not to scratch and polish it, let's see!

How soon after the order is with BMW can I get a VIN?

I asked my dealer this morning but all I got was a dealer order number. Not sure what I can do with that?

Don't know mine was ordered 6 or so weeks ago. Only got VIN today

Ok thanks I guess I will have to wait a little while and keep asking then.

I should have said I didn't ask for it until yesterday so it could have been anytime in the last 6 weeks

Dealer rang today to day the computer says 12th April for delivery more sleepless nights to wait

JM7789, when was your build completion date? Just wondering cos I'm waiting also and my dealer doesn't seem to have a clue, time for more phone calls I think.

So my car is showing as 8th April production date on the VIN decoder.

Any way I can find out when it's on the boat (apart from continually harassing the dealer)?

Find it the hard way like i did, by plugging number after number into the decoder until a car with your exact spec pops up!

Quite informative, as got the schedule of ships coming over the next few days, but not sure how to use track and trace. Does the ship have to on water for the system to work. I put in my VIN number, but it's not recognised.
