Am I being robbed?

Hi Guys,

need some help. I'm very new to the F30 scene! I've been offered a deal for

a xdrive 330d with pretty much every imaginable optional extra for a shade under £38k. Ive built the car up on the website and new comes out at £48. The car is Dec reg with apparently only 7k on the clock? I'm trying to convince myself this is a good deal but i'm really not sure?! What do you guys think?

Yep, 18-20% is doable on new. And depending how your paying, finance is usually better on new. If your looking at finance, a new car is usually cheaper than a 12-18 month old one.

I was looking at 4-6 month old cars myself. I found it cheaper to buy new...

The finance offers on a new car made up the difference and I got to run it in... I also think it would be worth trying to spec a new car. Folk were getting up to 20% of 335d's. £6K is easily achievable of a cheaper 330d sDrive...

A new one will work out pretty much the same price or with a good deal cheaper.

A lot depends on how you are paying for it as well.

New can give a better Apr.

Check new first then see how it looks.

It's about percentages though isn't it?

My car is not particularly highly specced. My only options were Pro Media, SPG and HFS.

It might have been only £10k, but it was getting on for 23% discount which I've yet to see anyone else get....

Lower specced cars get higher % discount. The trick is getting a fair bit over 20% with plenty of options.

In answer to the OP question, my answer is yes. Buy a new one for the same cost.

That's incorrect.

Dealers have much more flexibility the more options you add.

Have a look at Drive the Deal.

Get a figure from them for the car you want. Take that figure to your dealer and go from there.

I doubt very much you'll ultimately choose a used car based on the deals available on new cars.

Also worth getting in touch with TRL on this forum - our tame dealer....

You'll find that they won't want to discount it anymore. As soon as you start talking about the fact you know there a good discount on new, I bet they start talking about new cars with you.

You may be in a good position now also as it's year end in financial terms, so they may need to push a few more sales to get there targets.

kl i will get in touch. The dealer where this car is is no where near where i live (and they no that) so if i were to buy a new car it wouldn't be from them. thats my only bargaining power for this used one.

I've got a 1 series on order, and Coast2coast beat TRL by 1k. And my dealer beat that by £300, after a bit of face pulling.

Coast2coast where cheaper than drove the deal.

+1

Best bet is doing that.

Also be realistic with options, it is soooo easy to get too much.
Think how much you would use them etc.

I believe you are incorrect. The discount on the car and options is similar EXCEPT for the contribution that BMW give the dealer for selling the car. This increases the discount on the base car significantly. The options are discounted but have no additional contribution from BMW. Therefore a base car gets a higher % discount than a car with options.

This is true. A discount is worked out as basic car price plus options. That's it. This may be 12%.

You then add the on the road costs, and take off the finance contribution amount (these are fixed costs) this will then give you a total discount of say 18%.

Brommy is right. Adding more extras will reduce the overall percent off.
A basic car with no extras would show a couple percent more off.
It's why I always advise people not to get caught up with achieving the
Higher %. Also there is no discount on service pack so that can make the discount look lower overall.
If in doubt ask me. I will always be honest.
