Mobility kit found inside

Was finally home tonight downloading music into the iDrive and was putting the cargo net down in the trunk when I notice the BMW mobility tire inflator sitting there next to the battery. I need to take a close look at the Michelin PSS tires now to see if they are really zero pressure tires the finance guy told me I have as he was trying to sell me the tire warranty.

PSS are regular tyres.

Yup I second that. There was an all season run flat option that was not PSS. The PSS on the 235 are just normal tires.

Hmmm, Tire Rack shows both sets as Pilot Super Sports either non-flat or zero pressure available. I think with the kit being in the trunk they must be like you said the regular tires.

After having had run flats on my 335 and trying them again when I got a set of wheels from someone, I would never want them again. They are a nightmare especially on all the poorly maintained roads that we drive on daily. The ride is harsh and the road noise is loud. Not to mention that if you do get a flat and drive on it as is meant to, it will pretty much destroy the inside of the tire so you basically have it replace it at 300 or so a tire.

In my opinion, the runflat isn't necessary in the DC metro area since you never have to drive an extended distance if you get a flat and can always use the roadside assistance that comes through BMW with your warranty.

I'd normally go well out of my way to avoid runflats. However after borrowing a 420 from a dealer recently. It rode superbly well on 19" Runflats. It would appear BMW have spent some time listening to customers at last.

I hope so. I think the technology was still a little too premature when they first started throwing it on their vehicles. I'd have to try it on all kind of surfaces and see how it withstands the test of time as they wear as well as all the runflats I tried only got worse as they wore to the point where they were incredibly loud on the road and that was all you would hear. I'd give them a few more years to make the technology better before purposely going after a set again!

Yes I wouldn't want them on my M235. But our 520 GT and the 420 I drove feel a vast improvement. better suited to softer set-ups I think.

No need to ask for a refund . I let the fianance guy do his song and dance on how much money I will save by spending $3000 today then signed I decline all options on the bottom of the form.

I really thought the car rode a lot smoother while riding home from the dealership. My old 335i eat two rims in one season before I switch it over to regular tires. Never had another bent rim after that. My concern is I'm leasing this car and wanted to be sure I get the right tires put on before turning it back in; you know how anal the lease turn-in inspection can be. So, if it had the more expensive runflats I was going to pull them off right away and go with the standard Pilot Super Sports then put the factory tires back on.

Looking at the tires today I see no designation of "Zero Pressure" on the tires which tells me I'm good to go. I do see the little "star" symbol after the "Pilot Super Sports" in an oval that tells me this is a BMW manufacturer coded tire. Let's hope I don't have to get these OEM BMW specific PSS tires put on for the turn-in. The dealer markup is usually a lot higher than Tire Rack.

You can get the Star Spec tires from Tire Rack, they tend to be within a few dollars of the regular PSS. But from experience, you don't have to worry about what tires are on there when you turn the car in. In fact, we traded our 135i in with non RFT's and the dealer didn't mention a thing.

sorry for my ignorance.... so if you have run flats it's good to get the warranty but not otherwise ?
