Black grille question
I have a genuine BMW performance black grille waiting for my new f30. This may be a stupid question but will it need to be declared to the insurer? It's purely cosmetic like people who debadge

This was discussed in another thread, at some length! I would definitely not tell them, but others say the opposite, so if you want to be overly safe then maybe tell them.

They just said thank you, that's it. no charge - But it was at the same time I put a private plate on so the £40 I got charged might have been a sweetener. |

Depends what each insurers terms are on modifications. Every insurer has a different definition.
I did an Aviva quote today for a client which stated in the statement of fact if there has been any alterations/modifications to the vehicle including "cosmetic" changes. Check your t&c's first of your insurance policy, then make the decision. Personally I would. Dickie |

It's a five minute call mate...just make the call but the majority of insurers want to know about cosmetic mods as Dickie states above ...They will probably just add a foot note on your policy and you will have piece of mind...!

Not this again.
3 years from now, you take your car to a garage for a service. Instead of fitting BMW brake pads they fit Mintex, Axis, AP et al to it. Do you call your insurer? Nope. Calling an insurer about the fact a black and chrome plastic grill is now just black, is a waste of your own time as well as the phone operators time. Some people have even being charged an admin fee for the pleasure. Common sence in should be applied. It's like the guy who rang up because he changed his number plates to have GB on them! |

I enquired about this when I arranged my insurance last week, I said that I was considering replacing the rear pipe for purely cosmetic reasons. I was informed this would cost an additional £40 per year. I then asked about the grille and was surprised when they said that would carry the same increase in premium.

keep your old grille in the car then when you have an accident, quickly get out and swap them over before anyone sees.
If you are trapped, you'll need to ask a passer by to help. Perhaps print out the instructions for it... |
